Having visited the old winery many years ago we were very excited to see the new one. Very impressive we found it too! The food and wine pairings were excellent, and we thoroughly enjoyed all. Much more commercialised than our last visit when it was very much a family business with a much more intimate feel about it but that is progress. Very interesting to taste the Vermouths too. Visita, cata y extensa presentación de "Martínez Lacuesta: Vinos y Vermut", dirigida por el director general Luis Martínez Lacuesta, a ex-alumnos de vitivinicultura del instituto de I.E.S La Laboral en Lardero (La Rioja).

Llegamos a la conclusión que el vermut de La Rioja tiene nombre y apellido "Vermut Lacuesta". Está considerado como uno de los mejores aperitivos.

Su secreto es una fórmula única y artesanal que hacen desde 1937: Una base de hierbas y plantas aromáticas maceradas en frío y en vino blanco. Luego envejece en barricas de roble americano, y se adiciona al vino blanco base, junto al azúcar, ácido cítrico, caramelo y alcohol.

En español vermú o vermut, procede de la palabra francesa "vermout", y ésta de la alemana "wermut", que significa "ajenjo" o "absenta". Ya desde el siglo XVI., en Alemania y otras cortes de Europa se daba este nombre a los vinos fortificados y aromatizados con ajenjo.
