Cute pond and creek with "Igualeja" sign and local geese. Quiet town, good for affordable and authentic eats, chestnuts (local producer), and churros. We got churros from a churro cart while driving into the city. 1.50 euros for 4 pieces (enough for 2-4 people as they're quite greasy but tasty). Didn't hike around but I think it'd be pretty in the spring and fall (especially for fall foliage).

Would recommend visiting if you have your own car/mountain bike. Not accessible by tour buses but it's a lovely small town known for producing chestnuts! So visit in November-January for yummy roasted chestnuts or get some to roast yourself at home. We visited on a weekday morning in January (Three Kings Day) and it was super quiet, like the town was just waking up then. But we still saw a handful of locals...

🌰 Igualeja – Hidden Gem of the Chestnut Valley A quiet, traditional Andalusian village in the Genal Valley

Birthplace of the Río Genal — emerging from a cave at the edge of the village

Surrounded by dense chestnut forests and dramatic hills

A paradise for autumn lovers (October–November = chestnut season) 🍁 Seasonal Attraction:

Known for its “Fiesta de la Castaña” (Chestnut Festival) in autumn

Hiking trails and natural pools — perfect for nature and slow tourism Narrow streets, whitewashed houses, calm vibe

Great for people who want peace, walking, and authentic local life

Not touristy — ideal...
