Traditional yet modern? Premium yet sustainable? Yes, Sauvella is all that 😊.
A few days ago, we visited the village of Orcau, in Lleida, near the Pyrenees, to discover the Sauvella winery and its wines. Once we arrived, we met Jeroen, the owner, who welcomed us warmly! From the main square, overlooking the vineyards, he gave us a brief introduction to his winery and its beginnings, reviving the region’s winemaking tradition while bringing a modern and sustainable approach.
From there, we hopped into his jeep to explore the vineyards, where we saw different cultivation methods—some more traditional and others more modern. In the latter, we even spotted a few sheep grazing among the vines 🐑! Jeroen explained the different grape varieties they grow, their harvest times, and how they are transformed into wine—all through natural and high-quality processes! It was a truly enriching experience. I was left wanting to enjoy this same experience during harvest season, so I hope to return 🍇!
Back at the winery, Jeroen gave us a tour and we ended it with a tasting of several of his wines, accompanied by a selection of cured meats, cheeses, and breads that paired perfectly. The wines we tasted had many distinct nuances, making each one unique 🍷! I enjoyed every single one of them! In fact, I was so thrilled with the experience that I had to buy at least one bottle of my favorite wine to enjoy again at home 🥇!
In summary, it was a truly pleasant experience, one I hope to repeat! Congratulations, Jeroen, on your winery, your effort and dedication, and for bringing back a lost tradition to the region while respecting and modernizing it, giving it a special and unique value. Wishing you much...
Read moreHighly recommend visiting Sauvella for their wine tasting which my friends and I greatly enjoyed!
From the beginning, Jeroen welcomed us to the estate warmly and provided interesting history of not only the town but also the plantations that could be observed from the great viewpoint above.
Thereafter, we were brought into a cosy winery that had a historical barrel (no spoilers) and were educated on the types of grapes grown in the area by the informative Jeroen.
Later in the tasting area which faces a cute garden, we savoured three natural wines paired tastefully with a platter of cheeses, cured meats and hand on heart the best almonds I’ve ever tasted in my whole life. We got to chat with Jeroen more and thoroughly enjoyed conversations with him that involved not only his life, but also life in a unique town where Sauvella exists.
Overall, this was one of the most unique and best wine tastings I’ve ever been on and would definitely like to return again when in the area or passing by on the...

The natural wines themselves are exceptional—unique in character and clearly crafted with care. These are not wines you'll find on just any shelf; they are one-of-a-kind, deeply expressive, and reflective of the land and the people behind them.
What truly sets this place apart is the owner. Generous with pairings and pours, professional yet warm, and passionate, he made us feel like honored guests. Every explanation about the winemaking process was filled with fascinating detail, revealing the tremendous hard work and dedication that goes into every bottle.
