Reserved an English speaking tour over the phone, but when we arrived the tour was in Spanish. When I told the guide some of my group couldn’t understand, and we booked the English speaking tour, the guide said “you don’t have to stay you can leave”. Disappointing after a 1 and a half hour drive that some of my group could not understand anything and were told the solution is to leave or join the Spanish tour. Based on other reviews, this seems to be a common problem here.
In terms of the tasting, I have been before and they have since really scaled back. Not as much of a selection of food as was in the past and less wine / they have started giving some of their cheapest wines for the tasting. This is strange, because I know Luzon has some great wines. It’s also in contrast to other wineries in Jumillia where you sample their best wines (and would make sense because it incentivises people to buy them? But I would not buy any of the wines given at the tasting in Luzon). Odd all round.
I also remember in the past we could sample other wines at the bar after the tasting to see if we wished to purchase, but they have also stopped this.
It’s a shame, it used to be a great tasting / tour which is why I came back with friends to share the experience, but it now feels like it’s all about making max profit at the expense of quality. Would be great if they went back to how they conducted and organised the tour in the past. That was definitely...
Read moreA disappointing visit today. We had booked 32 euro tickets for an English speaking tour and travelled from England via calpe staying in jumilla for 3 nights to visit the bodegas only to find that they could not trace our reservation although we had the details to hand. We were advised that we could take the spanish tour with a guide who spoke some English (very little if any). It is a lovely place but a lot of money for 3 of us when we came away having learned nothing about the wine industry in jumilla. We spoke very politely to the man at the till who had a good grasp of English to be told he could do nothing for us we needed to contact his boss. The wine tasting at the end was very good but there is no doubt we were let down and had we known we would not have gone. Be warned please make sure you are getting what you paid for. As a wine producer of large standing I would have thought you could have at least compensated us with a bottle of wine! But no we even had to ask for the wine glasses which were part of the 32€ package. We have had 3 lovely days in jumilla and much better service & value elsewhere in the town....
Read moreThis was a treat for someone who had travelled to here via Calpe. We were booked on an English speaking guide. When we arrived there was no English speaking guide, We were advised to jion a Spanish group. .The guide spoke very little English. Although we understood the basics of wine making it was a disappointment that we did not get what we had asked for the tastings would have been informative. . When we approached the desk to address our concerns there was no one who wanted to take responsibility for the oversite. All the gentleman on the desk wanted to do was pass the complaint on . He did not want to try and rectify the situation. . Also the free glass were not very forthcoming which was included...
