We visited Perinet for the 2025 harvest festival and it was an unforgettable experience. We had never been there before, but it turned out to be a place where the human team stands out as much as the winery and its wines.
We were welcomed with a small snack and then had the opportunity to tour the vineyards with Toni, Perinet's winemaker, from whom we learned more in three hours than we would have in weeks in any advanced wine course. His knowledge, explanations, and ability to explain everything, adapting to the visitors' level of understanding, were fascinating.
We were able to harvest for a while. Then we followed the grapes to the winery, where they let us into the laboratory, explained all the processes related to winemaking, and we could see the grapes firsthand in the steel tanks undergoing fermentation. They let us participate in aerating the tanks and in different punch-down techniques. We were able to taste the wine at different stages of fermentation; from a simple must, still almost unfermented, to much more complex wines that would soon be transferred to barrels.
Then they took us to the cellar, where we calmly discussed barrels, wine maturation, and a myriad of other interesting details. This was followed by a visit to the bottling plant and finally a meal where we tasted their best wines on multiple occasions.
We did the entire visit with our 7-year-old son. We didn't know if he would enjoy it, but the Perinet staff made him feel like a star at all times, and he enjoyed it as much, if not more, than we did.
Perinet is a place to go to enjoy a great visit, good wine, and magnificent...
Read more10 STARS! Visited in November 2022... We started our Priorat tour at Perinet. They have incredible Priorat wines, so bold! I wanted to stay, didn't want to leave! Definitely, reviews don't lie, this is an amazing place. So, if you are looking for incredible Priorat wines at an amazing place/ambiance, Perinet got you covered.
Now the best part: if you are looking to have a direct connection with the winery with an expert that loves wines too, look no further and ask for Carlota Palau! This lady transmit everything (knowledge, experience and feelings) that I wanted to know about Priorat. The respect for the soil and the grapes and ultimately the final product is just unbelievable. We called her the Pope of the Wine lol since she knows Spanish, English and obviously Catalá.
I love rose wine, but I cannot believe that I was in love with their rose at a point that I bought a magnum (1.5L) with me to the United States. For me they created a new category of rose! Yes, Perinet Rose it is something out of this world. The reds are incredible too.
As a side note, I experienced rain at the winery (to irrigate the grapes with mechanical systems in Priorat is prohibited! something that we learned at Perinet) so it was a really special moment leaving the winery with all these bottles of magnificent wine and feeling the rain at the same time walking to my car.
Perinet is a piece of heaven on Earth and Carlota will guide you in this magnificent "extrasensorial" tour!...
Read moreThis large wine estate was opened in 2004 by Spanish investors who clearly had ambitions to produce large volumes of Priorat wine. It sits in a wonderful site on a hillside overlooking vineyards, mountains, and forest. That it is operating at much less than half its capacity reflects the impact of punishing financial conditions over the past decade. It now has major new investment by a California wine magnate, Robin Baggett, who, one suspects, will gradually want to take full advantage of the potential of this sleek, modern facility. In the meantime, the winery is producing a range of wines of appealing quality, and promoting wine tourism with multiple tasting options.
Our basic tour and tasting, led by a very enthusiastic and friendly Sara, took us through the production section of the winery, then the cellars, and concluded with a tasting of several of their wines. The cellars hold a couple of thousand oak barrels, mostly French, with the capacity for many more. Their reserve cellar holds bottles going back only to the early 2000's, consistent with the recent development of the Priorat region, which are being used to assess their wines for long-term potential. The wines are very good, but I am not convinced they really match their relatively high prices. Nonetheless, it's a very nice introduction to Priorat, and I would highly recommend making an appointment...
