Museo de Jarramplas — Attraction in Piornal

After seeing the item about the Jarramplas in Tom Waes Europa on Belgian television, we had to visit the museum. We were a bit early so had a drink first and when we arrived at 4PM, we were welcomed by an attendant who was on his first working day, and who spoke a little bit of English. But he did a great job and we communicated with Google Translate so we could follow along perfectly. As intro we were shown a video with English subtitles, giving an impression of the Jarramplas. Afterwards the attendant told us about the various costumes and attributes and we watched the informative videos about the music and the traditions. They are only in Spanish, but with our limited understanding of Spanish, and Google Translate, we managed to understand most of it. Well worth a visit if you want to know more about this...

Desde la primera vez que visité Piornal quedé enamorado de la figura de Jarramplas pero por unas cosas o por otras nunca había podido visitar su museo y que pena no haberlo hecho antes porque es sencillamente genial.

La entrada cuesta 1.50 euros y si uno quiere visitarlo, lo mejor, tal y como indican en su página web es contactar previamente por teléfono.

La visita se puede hacer por libre o con guía, cosa que recomiendo encarecidamente ya que por lo menos nuestro dinamizador (Jesús) además de estar perfectamente formado contagia con su pasión, el sentir de un pueblo alrededor de su fiesta más representativa.

El museo está situado en una primera planta y la verdad que desde fuera puede llevar a engaño pero lo cierto es que una vez dentro, sorprende no solo la gran cantidad de piezas que alberga, si no también lo cuidado que está todo, con varios paneles interactivos y hasta una sala de proyecciones.

Saliendo del museo, en el pasillo de la derecha, hay una muestra fotográfica en blanco y negro del fotógrafo peruano Jorge Armestar la cual recomiendo visitar si se tiene tiempo ya que consigue plasmar a la perfección el sentimiento de esta fiesta declarada de Interés Turístico Nacional.

Espero poder recorrer algún enero las calles de Piornal lanzando nabos, hasta entonces, solo me queda darles la enhorabuena por el papel tan importante que juega este museo alrededor de la figura...

Visited the museum as I had seen the videos on the Utube of the Jarramplas festival that takes place in January every year. There was a quick explanation for us at the start, then a video, and we were shown out to the exhibition area and explained about the parts of costume. I got my picture taken in the costume.
