LA PLAYA DE PENARRONDA CONSTITUYE UN ARENAL DE UNOS 600m DE LONGITUD ENCAJADO ENTRE LOS ALTOS ACANTILADOS DE LOS CABOS DE LA ROBALEIRA Y LAPUNTA DEL CORNO. LA FORMACIÓN DEL ARENAL ES DEBIDA A LA PRESENCIA, AL OESTE, DE LA RIA DEL EO Y A LA DIRECCIÓN PREDOMINANTE DE LAS CORRIENTES LITORALES QUE ARRASTRAN HACIA EL ESTE LA IMPORTANTE CARGA SEDIMENTARIA APORTADA POR EL EO.

EL LIMITE SUPERIOR DE LA PLAYA APARECE NETAMENTE MARCADO POR UNA BARRA ARENOSA QUE DA PASO A UN EXTENSO SISTEMA DUNAR QUE AVANZA CASI DOSCIENTOS METROS HACIA EL INTERIOR.

ESTA BARRA PROVOCA EL REPRESAMIENTO DEL ARROYO DE PENARRONDA QUE, EN OCASIONES, ENCHARCA EL ÁREA FORMANDO UNA LAGUNA DE TRASBARRA QUE DESAGUA FILTRÁNDOSE BAJO LA BARRA ARENOSA.

La playa de Penarronda es ideal para todo el mundo. Tiene un parking grande, buenos servicios (con duchas incluidas), un par de bares cerca y un camping. Además, cuenta con varias escuelas de surf donde puedes alquilar material y contratar clases. También hay un mirador, subiendo la cuesta (un poco pronunciada), desde donde se puede ver toda la playa. Es una playa muy surfera, pero cuenta con zona de baño y servicio de socorristas. Las olas suelen estar bien para cualquier nivel de surf, aunque suele haber bastante gente en el agua (hablo en verano, en invierno no lo se porque no soy local).
