This is an amazing Geode and worth the build up to it. If you are wanting to see it book in advance as it always seems to be booked out for more than one week, unless a tour cancels at the last minute and spaces become available. Get there 30mins before your slot. The tour is only in Spanish so it is well worth getting the Audio guide at €3 each otherwise you’ll be lost. The tour is 90 mins but does pass pretty quickly, culminating in the Geode itself. You are not allowed to take any pictures in the mine for some reason but your guid will take pict with their phone and you can buy them at the end for €1 and they email them to you, so it’s not too bad. There are quite a few steps down to the final part so and only one section has a lift for the spiral staircase. So if you do struggle with mobility would be a bit of a challenge. Well worth the wait you actually climb into the entrance to the Geode and look into it, which is amazing. Then you can get your picture st the entrance which comes out really well. To go into the Geode you do have to wear a hair net and face mask (assume it’s to keep it clean and pure but never understood that bit). There is a small gift shop bit they are build a new centre and you can see that it will great once done and a more established tourist destination. So for €22 each it’s a great visit and a different day out that. PS it’s not too cold in there, around 14 degrees so a jumper is all that you really need

Una experiencia inolvidable. A parte de la geoda en sí, que es algo espectacular y una maravilla, el poder andar por unas galerías que muchos años atrás estaban ocupadas por mineros e intentar imaginar cómo eran sus jornadas de trabajo, fue algo impresionante, ahora está todo iluminado pero esos hombres trabajaban con una simple luz en su casco, y esas herramientas, cómo eran las taladradoras, que destrozaban espaldas y brazos, en fin, sólo echo a volar la imaginación y después llego a la conclusión de qué dura fue la vida del minero. Belén, nuestra guía, nos explicó todo de forma amena y clara, contestó a nuestras preguntas. Es muy simpática. Lo que no dicen es cómo funciona el tema fotos, y es de la siguiente manera: la guía, Belén, en nuestro caso, es la que se encargó de sacar las fotografías, ella nos decía dónde y cómo colocarnos, por unidad familiar, y cuando termina la visita, si estás interesado en tener esas fotos, pasas por la oficina y por 2€ te las envían por correo electrónico y por 1€ más te imprimen la foto que te hacen en la entrada a la geoda y te la dan con un portarretratos de cartón del mismo tamaño que la foto 12x16 cm. La verdad es que es un recuerdo bonito y la mayoría las compramos. Por otra parte es entendible el que no dejen sacar fotos porque hay unos tiempos muy medidos y no somos el único grupo que visita la geoda, en el mismo día hay grupos cada media hora, si nos dejasen hacer fotos con libertad sería un caos y no estaríamos tan controlados. La verdad es que la organización es muy buena. Antes de entrar en la mina para empezar la visita nos dan un gorro desechable y el casco, que hay que llevarlo puesto durante toda la visita porque se pasa por galerías muy bajas y de hecho un visitante se dió un golpe y el casco le salvó de sufrir un accidente. Y por último, si no cambian en un futuro, de momento con la entrada a la geoda se tiene un descuento, no sé de cuánto, en la entrada para visitar la sala negra, en Pulpí y entrada gratuita al castillo San Juan de los Terreros, que se pueden realizar en el plazo de 1 año.

We travelled from the Netherlands to Pulpì for the geoda. It was not easy to pre order tickets because the website is only in Spanish. The tour was 1,5 hour through the mine. At literally Every single meter we stopped and the guide gave information about the mine. When we finally arrived at the geode, we had only 15 seconds a person to look in the geode. Then the turned off te light so the next person could take a very brief look! It was not allowed to take pictures at all during the entire tour. The guide took pictures with her phone and we had to pay for the pictures. Like we are the moneymachine here.. obviously.. if we had a little more time te see what we came for, an hadn't stopped a houdred times in the mine, we would have seen what we have travelled thousands of miles for too see..

In december 1999 wordt er in een oude mijn buiten het plaatsje Pulpí in de provincie Almería (Andalusië) een gigantische geode ontdekt, die bovendien onbeschadigd en prachtig doorschijnend blijkt te zijn. Een echt wonder van de natuur, dat we als kristalliefhebbers, dolgraag met eigen ogen willen zien! Wat is eigenlijk een geode? Voordat ik meer over de gigantische geode van Pulpí (in het Spaans: Geoda de Pulpí) in Spanje vertel, lijkt het me handig om eerst uit te leggen wat een geode is. Ik ben geen geoloog of scheikundige, maar ik probeer een zo duidelijk mogelijke uitleg te geven: Een geode is een holle, min of meer bolvormige steen die aan de binnenkant begroeid is met kristallen. En die te vinden is in sedimentgesteenten (d.w.z. gesteente dat ontstaan is uit door water, wind en ijs meegevoerde samengeperste materialen) plus vulkanische gesteenten. Geodes zijn namelijk ontstaan als gasbellen in het vloeibare magma dat tijdens een vulkaanuitbarsting opgespoten wordt. Deze gasbellen blijven na stolling van het magma bestaan en krijgen een harde buitenkant. De mineralen in het water dat langs de verharde buitenkant van een gasbel loopt, gaan langzaam een gasbel binnen en vormen in de loop der tijd (vaak miljoenen jaren!) kristallen aan de binnenkant van de hard geworden gasbel. Zo, dan weten we dat ook weer 👍🏻 Waarom is de geode van Pulpí zo bijzonder? Meestal zijn geoden tussen de 2,5 en 30 centimeter groot. De Geoda de Pulpí is echter een van de grootste plus gaafste gevonden geoden ter wereld! Deze in Zuid-Spanje gevonden geode heeft namelijk een lengte van maar liefst acht meter en is twee meter hoog! En sommige kristallen zijn maar liefst twee meter lang. Bovendien zijn de kristallen in deze geode in Andalusië onbeschadigd en hebben een prachtig doorschijnende kleur. En als je tijdig (online) boekt, kun je met een gids de mijn in en uiteraard ga je dan ook naar de Geode. PS Zorg voor n goede conditie want er zijn 156 traptreden te gaan om zo op alle 4 de niveaus in de mijn aan te kunnen komen.

Afternoon 14 Segovia Trip. The Pulpí Geode, also known as the Giant Geode, is the one of the largest crystal caves ever found, and is the largest accessible geode in the world. The geological phenomenon is located in an abandoned silver mine. Discovered in 1999 it opened to the public in 2019. A geode is a void formed from an air bubble inside volcanic, metamorphic or sedimentary rock. It is filled with crystals formed from mineral deposits. The Giant Geode measures 8 metres long by 2 metres high, and is covered with huge translucent gypsum crystals up to 2 metres in length. The transparency, size and state of preservation of this geode make it unique.

No hay muchas palabras que puedan definir lo maravilloso de esta visita minera y el impresionante objetivo que es ver la geoda más grande del mundo descubierta, a nosotros nos tocó de guía Jesús, una magnífica persona y gran profesional con unos conocimientos muy elevados sobre todo lo que respecta a geología y espeleología, no llevó por toda la mina explicándonos con todo detalle lo que allí había ido ocurriendo a lo largo de los años, siempre mostrando un respeto muy marcado a las personas que antaño trabajaron allí y han hecho posible las visitas, ha sido una visita de unos 90 minutos por un recorrido sencillo, la única parte que le puede costar a algunas personas es la de las escaleras pero despacio y con buena letra se salva perfectamente, antes de entrar a la mina te equipan con casco y es muy necesario para las personas que midan más de 1,60 porque hay zonas en las que te das con la cabeza si vas atento, las fotografías y vídeos están prohibidos (para mi el único punto negativo) aunque el guía se encarga de tomarte todas las fotografías que quieras, además de haber unos lugares en los que el mismo ya se encarga de tomártelas, al salir, en la tienda, si das un email y 1 euro por persona te las envían todas al correo al momento, cuando se llega a la geoda entramos parcialmente, con mascarilla, podemos meter casi el cuerpo entero desde unos escalones preparados para ello, pero no penséis que vais a poder circular por ella libremente, es un espacio reducido y no de fácil acceso para todos, además y muy importante es un espacio que sufre una degradación brutal como se puede observar donde nos apoyamos para ver su interior, vale mucho la pena poder observarla como nos indican, al salir podemos ir a una pequeña tienda de recuerdos donde hay todo tipo de souvenirs relacionados con la mina y la geoda a buen precio además de encargar las fotos de la visita. CONSEJO: RESERVAR LAS ENTRADAS CON BASTANTE ANTELACIÓN, se acaban muy rápido.
