Read moreA hill resort worth visiting. I was on vacation in Barcelona and took a day Trip to Vall de Nuria, a Ski Resort, close to the French border. This is one great option for a day trip from Barcelona. If you have multiple entry Schengen Visa you can visit a tiny country Andorra, which is around 100 Kms from Nuria.
The easiest access to Nuria is by the Rack Railway, which leaves from Ribes de Freser and takes about 40 minutes to climb the 12 km route. The train passes through some spectacular countryside, at a very slow pace. The train station has a museum of old trains too.
Nuria houses a large hotel as well as historical buildings, and is situated in a valley surrounded by the high Pyrenean peaks. It is probably more popular in the winter ski season, but escaping the scorching heat of Barcelona in August wasn't ’t bad either. There is a manmade lake, overlooked by the hotel complex. Boating is a great way to explore the valley all around.
We reached Ribes on car, it has a free parking so you can park your vehicle and proceed to Nuria. In all it was a great day, the valley is beautiful, and different from most of the other attractions in the region, and for us it was well...
Read moreFantastic place to spend a day or a week! I went there in March (low season-almost no tourists) it was incredible! I traveled by train from Barcelona Sants to Ribes de Freser (~2,5 hours) and stayed there, I took a train up to the valley next day(also there’s a stop right at the train station or in the center of Ribes). The train goes every two hours but for timetable and price check their website, they update it so it’s accurate:) once in the valley you can take a cable car even higher! (Already included in the ticket price). There’s loads of hotels available around and even in Nuria, which is great if you spending days hiking, there’s loads of trails! 😍 In winter time there’s a rental place for skiers and snowboarders. Also in the church building they have a restaurant (which is closed during lunchtime lol), and bars where you can get some snacks. There’s also a place in the ground floor where you can have a picnic and eat your food that you brought with you. Overall, it was a really nice experience, can’t wait to go back...
