Roman theater of Segóbriga — Attraction in Saelices

What a fascinating experience! The staff couldn't have been more helpful. It starts with beautifully curated museum dedicated to this historic site, and proceeds to a tour of the excavated grounds culminating in the magnificently restored Roman theater — an absolute marvel for photographers and videographers. Fascinating knowing that this place existed 2000 years ago. I hope Spanish government will find the money to continue archeological works to discover all 100% of the city, as at the moment it's only 20%. The stone that was made into the glass was the reason city was built. I will be back in some time to see more discoveries. Uno de los monumentos más sobresalientes de Segóbriga es el Teatro, aunque es uno de los más pequeños de Hispania.

Su construcción debió iniciarse poco después del cambio de Era, en época julio-claudia y se inauguró en tiempos de Tito y Vespasiano, hacia el 78 d. C., conforme indicaba una gran inscripción monumental cuyos restos han aparecido entre las ruinas.

Fue financiado por un rico y poderoso personaje senatorial, del que desconocemos su nombre, pero del que sabemos que fue gobernador o pretor de la Provincia Aquitana entre los años 76 y 79 d.n.e. gracias al texto de parte de una inscripción monumental cuyos restos aparecieron entre sus ruinas.

El graderío, bien conservado, se dividía en tres partes, separadas por corredores para diferenciar por clases a sus habitantes. La parte superior se apoyaba en la muralla sobre un corredor abovedado bajo el que corría una calle.
