Read moreI liked it overall, as it was a beautiful park - a million trees blending with the sea, it was lovely and I owed yet again at nature and its beauty. It was recimended to me by a local and I chose to go, as I expected a very remote and nature-friendly place. However, people have turned it into a bit of a circus, not caring a single bit about the wildlife or the fact that this place is a natural habitat for hundreds of species. Instead, when you reach the first beach, you are greeted by a bar full of plastic goods and tourist boats driving in and out of the lagoon every hour. If you are lucky enough to spot a fish, octopus or a crab, you will also see them running for their life when the catamarans are approaching. Sad story really. Same goes for the second beach. I won't even comment on the mount of people leaving their rubbish behind... To top things off, both bars DO NOT have drinking water fountains. They are so so so cheap and easy to install, and save so much plastic from going into the seas. Owners have decided to make profit instead - IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NATURAL PARK - and water costs €4 a bottle... let's say 1000 people go there every day, they would buy 3-4 bottles each... that's a ridiculous amount of plastic that daily goes to waste! Ridiculous... I hope Mondrago lasts long enough to see...
Read moreThe beach here is beautiful. Excellent for children as the water is really clear (not even much churned up sand underwater) and quite shallow for a decent amount into the sea. It's also great for snorkelling as there's a rocky bit to one side which leads around to a second beach. Both are fairly narrow unfortunately and get crowded but you should be able to find a spot to park your stuff. Toilets are 1 Euro a go and there's fresh fruit and a small eatery available too. The biggest issue for some people might be the lengthy walk from the top of the hill. As it's situated in a residential area, you have to park in a car park some 350m at the top of the hill and it costs 5 euro for the day or if you leave it late enough, 2 euro. If it's full, you can park on the side of the road a bit further up for free. When packing up our gear, I did a naughty and drove down to the turning circle right at the beach front, chucked our stuff in the boot and headed back up the hill. Not recommended if you have a wide vehicle like a bigger SUV as the road does get narrow and it's hard for 2 cars to pass each other without mowing down innocent pedestrians. Well recommended if you're staying in or around Cala d'Or because it's only a...
