AVA Vi was the highlight of a wonderful day spent cycling leisurely amongst the vineyards south of Benissalem. With no set itinerary, we emailed a few of the smaller bodegas to see if we could pop by for a glass or two. AVA Vi was one of the few to respond so, on the day, we called to give them fair warning then headed over.
We got there to find Alexandra (the owner) and Claudia (their intern winemaker – that's her in the middle of the photo) sitting outside a charming little building in the midst of the vines. Claudia got us some cheese and biscuits and guided us through a selection of their delicious wines, while we sat under an olive tree with a clear view all the way to the mountains. Stunning!
Seriously, if you get the chance, give them a shout. I'm sure they'd be happy to sell you a glass or two if you just turn up, but it's a small operation so there might not be...
