Castillo de Tabernas is a castle (in ruins) on the outskirts of the Tabernas., a town in the Almería province, in the autonomous community of Andalucia, Spain. It was built in the 11th century during the time of Arab domination. It is of Moorish style and is situated on top of a hill. When it was built, it occupied the entire hill. It currently has scaffolding so restoration is taking place. it was declared a "Bien de Interés Cultural monument". During the siege of Almeria, Ferdinand and Isabella ensconced themselves in the castle. It can be reached easily Via the Autovia A-92 (Guadix-Almeria) and then a few kilometres along the A340 towards Circuito de Almeria/Nuevo...

Well worth visiting. The views from the castle are tremendous. We didn't see any signs to the castle in the town (like many Spanish castles, they could be publicised better), but the path starts by the car park of the sports complex in the town and is a proper paved road that you can push a push chair up if you want to. Well done to the local council for renovating the castle, even though it's a bit limited how much of it could be saved, but it gives a good idea of what it must have been like originally. Although some of the renovation is a bit odd, we didn't think it deserved the negative review some people have given it. It looks good from...

A long walk for an over and badly restored castle. But good exercise. Interesting to see how EU money has been spent in some areas. Excellent sports facility at the foot of the castle mountain and a modern road / footpath to exersize on the way up.

Not a 5 star castle, but the 360 degree views are incredible. We'll worth the short climb to the top. For improvement, they need to replace the information board, and offer more historical information to the tourists.
