I liked the place, it was interesting, but the directions are not clear: There are only information plaques (in English, a rarity in Catalonia. Very nice, thank you.), but there are no arrows showing which way to go next. As a result, we wandered off at the top of the hill for some 30 mins or so before we realized we were definitely not on the right route anymore and had to backtrack another 30 mins. In the HOT sun, that was not a fun experience. Additionally, the inside of the quarry, or the "pit" was closed off and locked, so it was frustrating not being able to enter the highlight of the whole experience. We had to contemplate things from the edges above, which would have been fine if not for... the trees and bush at the bottom of the quarry is so overgrown that very little can be seen! If the species of trees and plants there are not threatened, maybe it'd be a good idea to clear all of that greenery away so that people can actually see the details...
Read moreThis is an interesting site but rather hard to visit for several reasons. The closest bus stop is El Ponte, about 20 minutes from Tarragona. From there you have to cross literally the turn around of the highway to get to the mountain side of the highway. After a short walk you get to the quarry. You can only walk around the quarry, the lower part seems to be closed for good though in the leaflet I got at the tourist office the walks indicate it on the lower level. It seems even they don’t know the situation. You find different opening times on the Internet but they are all irrelevant since you can walk around it to 24/7. The only part with opening times is the information center in the middle of the highway that you can only reach by car. I think the sites here deserve more visitors and...
Read moreFantastic place to get to know about ancient Roman history, their tradition, culture. You can visit the site at your own pace. Entrance is free. The well-signed path will take up and down a few hills. Plenty of signage in four languages will explain everything there is to know about how Romans used stones from que quarry to build the cities around Tarraco. No guide available, food or water. So take your own and be ready for a sporty (at times pretty hot) trek 😊. Beware of the wasps. I got stung a few times by an angry swarm while on Lookout...
