Vigozoo — Attraction in Vigo

What a great little Zoo! Although a bit out of the way up in the hills, there are two city buses that go there and it's an easy drive (about 20-30 minutes from the city centre - taxi would be an option for some). Ignore reviews saying it's dear / caro - it's €5 per adult and run by volunteers. This is good value and the money supports their work and the animals (not cheap). London Zoo is nearly 4 times this amount for an adult as a comparison. There are many animals to see, including large ones such as lions, tiger, grizzly bears, zebra and black panther as well as many smaller ones, birds and a number of 'houses' including a noctural one, reptiles and butterflies in the summer. Although a smaller zoo we spend many hours there on a quiet weekday and moreorless had the animals to ourselves. There are fantastic views of the Ria and Vigo, Cangas and Moana from the Zoo throughout and also an excellent lookout and small forest picnic park just outside the main entrance. The Zoo facilities are well kept and the cafe is simple but serviceable for a light bite and a good coffee or something stronger. Well...

My family and I decided to visit the zoo on a Saturday afternoon. If you have a child who is 3 years old or under they can enter for free, two adults cost around 12€. We looked at the map and headed towards the first stop. They had reptiles, insects, and birds…. it was lovely. Then we looked at the map to decide our next stop, we noticed that they had a lot of zones “under construction” which was a bit devastating. As we went from one place to another we could see that some animals were pacing around and wouldn’t stop. Le doy 2 estrellas porque el sitio como tal está muy bien y puede dar mucho de sí. Ahora bien el cuidado a los animales está rayando en lo malo. Muchísimos sitios cerrados o en mantenimiento y llevan tiempo así. Los estanques y sitios húmedos super mal mantenidos. Se nota que los hábitats que estan mejor son los de aquellos animales que no requieren mantenimiento especializado. El de los lobos es casi imposible verles, vale que les gusta la maleza y el bosque pero eso es un monte sin sentido que se nota que no tiene ningún mantenimiento. Lo monos son inexistentes (cero). Los hábitats de los felinos bueno, bastante mejorables, aunque se ven bien alimentados, los espacios son insuficientes para ese tipo de animales.

Con todo y eso lo peor y más triste son las aves. Me parece que es en lo que menos invierten y pareciera que no tienen personal especializado. Las aves rapaces o peligrosas están encerradas en cubículos de madera sin prácticamente vistas hacia afuera. Estan grave que, como si no fuera suficiente estar encerrada en una caja sin vistas, la pobre tiene una pata encadenada al poste donde está parada y no tiene un largo que le permita moverse de allí. Me provocó muchísima indignación. He estado en otros zoo en lugares con menos recursos y aves mucho más peligrosas y grandes son libres de moverse en su entorno mucho mejor adaptado a su tamaño y necesidades. Si no van a tener personal especializado que sepa tratar a los animales, no los tengan. Donarlos a reservas u otros zoos que si sepan cómo tratarlos.

El valor de la entrada, demasiado barato. Se nota en la calidad del mantenimiento de los animales. Me parece increíble que la gente le de 4 y 5 estrellas diciendo que el lugar es maravilloso. Lleve a mi hijo porque tenía muchísima curiosidad de ver animales que solo ha visto en la tele y me...
