So the Monastery is really 5* and deserves 5*, it is an amazing site and real life goives you and experince of how monks are living today and in the past and what an amazing life and role they have played.

However, we seemed to do the tour a little quicker, we were 3 adults and a baby, we needed to leave after 30mins to change the baby and to get her to sleep as she was crying. We asked a tour guide who was with a group at the entry doors to let us out, he refused and said our guide had to do that. We went to find ouirs and he said he would be right with us, we never saw him again. Eventually after 20mins we found someone who would let us out.

So basically they lock you in with key and only allow you out by key at set times. This is so dumb, we had a child with us and we needed to leave to get them attended to and settled. There didn't seem to be any other way to get out, we saw no fire escapes or such. If htere was a fire or some nutcase with a machine gun, we would have been trapped. I would suggest the monastery review their safety procedures. Why not hav a desk at the front with a turnstyle and pay there to enter, your current setup doesnt make sense, and because of this experience we give you 2* and we would really have...

Poblet is the most important crypt of the Crown of Aragon and a symbol of the history and the power of this kingdom through the Middle Age. However, you will find nothing about this on your visit to Poblet. Just tons and tons of propaganda from the Order of the Cister and a lot of spiritual and religious contents centered around the life of the monks. Don't get this wrong, it is interesting to know about the Cister and its importance from Bernardo de Claraval and the preservation of the historical site. But it is even more important to know about the treasure they keep in the form of the tombs of Alfonso el Casto, Don Jaime and Alfonso el Magnanimo. You would learn nothing...

Simply amazing. You can feel this place is powerful medicine. I stayed 2 times, 3 days each. took me a day to walk in the church and was alone in there. I came out in tears. I watch several people that it did the same. the next day tour, under the statue of mary behind the altar, all alone, i beat my depression. The monks built it to be a moving experience and it is. Plus a short walk away you can walk in like a state park up a canyon. I would sit from a good vantage point in the late evening and see red deer and sometimes boars. Wine is good. Either rent a car or catch the bus from Tarragona. (An easy train ride from Barcelona) bus doesnt run on weekends and is only 1 or 2 times a day.

I throughly enjoyed my day at Poblet Monastery and wasn’t expecting how futuristic the tour felt. The visitors centre was excellently modern with sliding screens and walkways to educate you with every step. Afterwards we visited the Monastery itself and it was very well kept with breathtaking views from the garden/cloister. You may come across the monks as they are working and you can even arrange a talk with them. On the tour you will be prompted to download an app that guides you around - headphones are a must for this. This mini basilica is well worth the visit and I even spied a wonderful cafe as I was leaving!
