Simply amazing. You can feel this place is powerful medicine. I stayed 2 times, 3 days each. took me a day to walk in the church and was alone in there. I came out in tears. I watch several people that it did the same. the next day tour, under the statue of mary behind the altar, all alone, i beat my depression. The monks built it to be a moving experience and it is. Plus a short walk away you can walk in like a state park up a canyon. I would sit from a good vantage point in the late evening and see red deer and sometimes boars. Wine is good. Either rent a car or catch the bus from Tarragona. (An easy train ride from Barcelona) bus doesnt run on weekends and is only 1 or 2 times a day.

Peace & quiet away from the madding crowd. Very quiet when we visited on a mid-week afternoon, June '22 Atmospheric. Not dreadfully commercialised nor especially preachy. Moving introductory video but then a matter-of-fact tour on the app - remember your earphones! Church strangely the least interesting bit. I was more encouraged to linger in the cloister and the app concentrates more on how the monks live/d - fascinating from this point of view.

Poblet is the most important crypt of the Crown of Aragon and a symbol of the history and the power of this kingdom through the Middle Age. However, you will find nothing about this on your visit to Poblet. Just tons and tons of propaganda from the Order of the Cister and a lot of spiritual and religious contents centered around the life of the monks. Don't get this wrong, it is interesting to know about the Cister and its importance from Bernardo de Claraval and the preservation of the historical site. But it is even more important to know about the treasure they keep in the form of the tombs of Alfonso el Casto, Don Jaime and Alfonso el Magnanimo. You would learn nothing about them here.

I am really sorry to rate this with only 3 stars. The place is beautiful, both the landscape and the monastery. It's rich in information for those who are interested in the history of the kingdoms of Aragon and Catalunya. In its grounds there is a 12th century church containing the graves of the early kings. It's a pleasant day trip from Barcelona. I am giving a 3 star rating because of the total lack of consideration for the foreign paying visitors. Should one learn Catalan before visiting one area, which still is (for better or worse) a region of Spain?

Part of 3 UNESCO World Heritage, the scenic route with video and explanation are of a very good quality. It’s obviously a must see if you are traveling in the area. You can buy a combined ticket with the 3 sites. This ticket is working for 2 years. There is a pause at noon on each site so it is recommended to visit them on two days. A good pretext to stop in on of the good restaurants near Valls (for a Calçotada for exemple).
