I brought some friends up to experience a camel ride. I’d read some reviews and was a little concerned. But figured I need to come and see for myself. If it was a horror show, we could always leave and chose not to support it.

The camels are in relative good shape. This isn’t a pony trek in Surrey. These are Dromedaries. Designed by nature to exist in arid desert. There isn’t any water on offer yes. But a simple Wikipedia search reveals that they can go a month without water. I only just missed a massive Camel wee as I was taking a photo. Mammals don’t expel urine if they’re dehydrated. I saw several of them chewing regurgitated food. They had space in their headgear to do this comfortably.

I petted a couple whilst passengers were being loaded. I checked for sores around the head harness. I could fit 2 fingers behind all the links (this is standard dog collar check…apparently)

They moan. They would probably rather be eating oats in a field rather than schlepping up and down a hill with Ron & Darleen from Minnesota either side of their hump. But I didn’t see anyone punching or kicking anyone or anything.

This is my personal experience. Others on other days may have had another. But I went looking with an open mind. I looked for evidence of clear mistreatment and couldn’t find any. We need to be realistic about what they are and who owns them. The tiger in a box at the Rancho Texas isn’t any better off cos he’s got a paddling pool and no lead on.

They were polite. €11pp. He’d like cash off you. But I saw him with a card machine. Ride a Camel on a Volcano so you can say you did it, with a clear...

We came here as part of our volcano tour and decided to pop in to the cafe. Unfortunately this is where it all went wrong. We were served by what I can only describe as a vile pig woman who seemed to take an instant disliking to us for no other reason than us wanting to purchase some food and drink. My mother only asked if she had any vegetarian sandwich options to which the old hag scoffed and became blunt in telling us no. This was no issue my Mother continued to purchase a variety of food and beverages (certainly wish she hadn’t bothered on reflection). In addition to this, when we tried to take our purchases to a table the lava witch snapped and insisted that we carry each individual item without a tray. To top it all off, when my Mum tried to take a photo the foul cretin decided to charge like a raging hippo at my poor mother, screaming something about not taking photos. I would like to add we are reasonable people, we have no problem abiding by the rules of an establishment, there was no need for such an aggressive outburst. My poor mother was certainly a bit shook after the whole thing. Especially as the crazy fiend was striking her arm all the while! Overall I would say if you like to ride camels then this might be the place for you. I would just avoid the cafe as it seems to be an inhabitat...

Me and my boyfriend went here to go on the camels, we weren’t told a lot about the camels on our tour on the way to them, just off the bus straight on to the camel. This was fine I was feeling a little nervous but that is to be expected, we go up on the camel and we were not up on the camel longer that two mins the man who was leading them slapped the camel from the back and it wasn’t a tap it was a slap, also while these animals are chained up, I did think they were very close behind one another as I said to my boyfriend also feeling a little sorry and maybe thinking I shouldn’t have gotten on but I sucked it up and went along thinking it was okay, then something happened up front in our line of camels that freaked them out as the leader of them was shouting Jesus 3 times in a state try to tell the animal to calm in Spanish then, the animals did not calm and I had to quickly terrified get myself out of the camel while my boyfriend got crushed from the rocks and the camel had crushed him as well, this was not a pleasant experience and I am an animal person and what happened should never happen I would t recommend as they let small...

We decided not to do the camel ride because it was just a walk around a hill..not exactly the most exciting thing. We found another place (Lanarote A Caballo) that fulfilled our camel riding wishes just fine...and we were able to spend a lot of time there petting them, which was nice. This place, though, for what it's worth, has a free and neat exhibit on the history of camels on the island that I really did enjoy. It was a quick visit, and the guides there were helpful...there's something to be said there. We stopped here first on our way to the fire mountains, and they quickly told us to get to the fire mountain tour first, as the line there would be long. Anyway, it's a good stop to make here in general, but don't expect this to be the most stunning spot of your tour.

Very fun! Think you're on the camel for about half an hour/25 mins with the cheap price of €12 per camel (which fits 2 people). Prior to arriving I was quite worried about the treatment of the camels but we were all assured about how they have over 350 camels at different farms and each day they swap them over and are only actually doing the rides for around a couple hours a day before returning back to their farm so they aren't working long hours 7 days a week which I feel people assume! The staff are friendly, offering to take pictures on your phone's of you, and also taking an official photo which is cost at €5. I went on with my sister who is autistic, and after the original movement of the camel standing up, said the ride was the best part of her holiday!

First Minute bus will pick you up at your resort/hotel and then drop you off anywhere on the route back. Ferrera the driver has driven us on a few excursions, they're all a friendly bunch. The ride is a great experience, it's all over fairly quickly but it's plenty of time for the experience and kids had enough after the 20 minutes anyway. Good opportunity for pics of Timanfaya national park and the montanas del fuego. The camel guides will take pics for you during the trek, obviously for a small tip, but if they do take a good pic it'll save you the 5 euros for the printed professional [cough] picture.
