Playa del Janubio is a stunning black sand beach located on the island of Lanzarote, part of Spain’s Canary Islands. This beach is famous for its dramatic volcanic landscape and proximity to the Salinas de Janubio, traditional salt pans where salt has been harvested for centuries. Here are a few highlights:

Features: Black Sand and Volcanic Beauty The beach is composed of black volcanic sand, a result of Lanzarote’s volcanic origins, creating a striking contrast with the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Wild and Untamed Vibes Playa del Janubio is not typically ideal for swimming due to strong currents and waves, but it is a perfect spot for photography, walking, or simply soaking in the raw beauty of nature. Proximity to Salinas de Janubio The nearby salt pans are one of Lanzarote’s most iconic features, producing natural sea salt and offering a beautiful mosaic of colors, especially during sunset. Peaceful Atmosphere It is less crowded than other beaches on the island, making it ideal for those seeking...

Playa del Janubio is a unique and captivating beach on the southwestern coast of Lanzarote, known for its dramatic black sand and rugged volcanic landscape. While not your typical sunbathing spot, it offers a different kind of beauty and a unique experience for those seeking something off the beaten path.

Playa del Janubio is a photographer's dream, with countless opportunities to capture dramatic and artistic shots. We especially enjoyed visiting early morning, when the light created a mesmerizing play of colors on the black sand and the surrounding cliffs plus there were no...

It's a rocky beach but the rocks are smooth and uncomfortable to lie on. My only wish is that access to the beach were better for pedestrians. There is a path along the salt pans, but it's not open to the public, so one has to walk along the highway, 1h 20m round trip from the nearest bus stop....
