Hanthana International Bird Park Review:
Nestled amidst the lush greenery of Hanthana, the Hanthana International Bird Park promises a captivating experience for nature enthusiasts and bird lovers alike. My recent visit to this avian haven left me with a mixed bag of impressions, combining the joy of witnessing diverse bird species with a few considerations for improvement.
Arrival and Ambiance: Upon entering the park, the serene atmosphere immediately transported me into a realm of nature's symphony. The lush surroundings and well-maintained pathways create a peaceful ambiance, enhancing the overall visitor experience. The park's layout allows for a leisurely stroll, making it accessible for all age groups.
Avian Diversity: One of the park's highlights is undeniably its rich avian diversity. From vibrant parrots to majestic eagles, the collection of bird species is extensive. Informational signs throughout the park provide interesting facts about each species, adding an educational element to the visit. Bird enthusiasts will find themselves immersed in observing and learning about the feathered residents.
Interactive Exhibits: For those seeking a more hands-on experience, the park offers interactive exhibits, allowing visitors to feed certain bird species under the guidance of knowledgeable staff. This creates a unique opportunity for visitors to connect with the birds on a more personal level, fostering a deeper appreciation for these fascinating creatures.
Maintenance and Cleanliness: While the park generally maintains a tidy appearance, there were instances where cleanliness could be improved. Some areas showed signs of litter, detracting from the overall aesthetic appeal. Enhanced efforts in waste management would contribute to a more visually pleasing and eco-friendly environment.
Educational Programs: The park's commitment to education is evident through its informative displays and scheduled educational programs. However, there is room for improvement in terms of organized guided tours or interactive sessions, providing visitors with a more structured learning experience. This could enhance the educational value of the park for both children and adults.
Visitor Amenities: Basic amenities such as restrooms and seating areas are available, ensuring a comfortable visit. Yet, the addition of more shaded spots and perhaps a small cafรฉ could enhance the overall visitor experience, especially during warmer days.
Conservation Efforts: It's commendable that the Hanthana International Bird Park emphasizes conservation efforts. The park's role in breeding programs and habitat preservation is crucial for the protection of endangered species. Highlighting these initiatives more prominently could further raise awareness among visitors about the importance of wildlife conservation.
Conclusion: Hanthana International Bird Park offers a delightful escape into the world of birds, showcasing the beauty and diversity of avian life. While the overall experience is positive, addressing minor cleanliness issues, enhancing educational programs, and improving visitor amenities could elevate the park to greater heights. It remains a charming destination for families, bird enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature's...
ย ย ย Read moreHanthana Bird Park is a great spot for nature lovers, couples, and families, set in the beautiful Hanthana mountains with a cool climate. โ๏ธ๐ฟ Just 20-30 minutes from Kandy city, it's near the Ceylon Tea Museum, requiring a small hike to reach from there. ๐๏ธ๐ฅพ Free parking is available for over 50 vehicles. ๐
The park has a variety of colorful birds ๐ฆ๐ฆข, creating a peaceful environment. It covers a large area with some uphill and downhill walks, giving visitors a bit of a workout. Some areas are under construction ๐ง, as only phase 1 is completed, so expect some unfinished spots along the way. ๐ถโโ๏ธ
Entry fee for locals is Rs. 700 for adults and Rs. 400 for kids. For an extra Rs. 300, you can feed the parrots, which is a wonderful experience as they land on your hands and shoulders. ๐ฆ๐
A staff member is present to assist and even take nice photos for you while you interact with the birds. ๐ธ However, before entering the feeding spots, you must leave your belongings outside, as the parrots tend to peck at small items. ๐ The overall price of Rs. 1100 per person seems a bit high for whatโs offered.
A waterfall is located inside the park, but unfortunately, it had no water when I visited. ๐โ There are also plenty of photo-worthy spots, including the well-known umbrella road โ๏ธ and scenic man-made backgrounds that add to the parkโs charm. ๐ธ๐ณ
Some free parrots are kept outside their cages with handlers, allowing visitors to touch and hold them for photos. ๐ฆ๐คฒ However, be careful as they may scratch or nibble on buttons, earrings, or other small objects, so avoid wearing anything loose.
Apart from birds, the park features activities like bow-and-arrow target shooting ๐ฏ, horse riding ๐, and a Jurassic world-themed setup ๐ฆ, though many of these are not operational. Thereโs also a small aquarium ๐ under construction and a kids' play area ๐, which adds some variety, but the lack of maintenance limits the experience.
3 canteens ๐ฝ๏ธ around the park, with one serving lunch options like fried rice. ๐ The food selection is limited, but the prices are reasonable. Cleanliness inside these eateries could be better, and nearby restrooms ๐ป are functional but not well maintained.
The park has a large open space, but the bird cages are quite small, and there are no informational signs about the species. ๐๏ธ๐ฆ Some birds appear stressed due to limited space, which could be improved with better enclosures and care.
A gift shop near the back gate sells souvenirs, including small bird figurines, keychains, and other collectibles. ๐ While the prices are slightly high, itโs a nice place to grab a memory of your visit.
Beware of tuk-tuk drivers! ๐โ ๏ธ They block PickMe and Uber from entering and force visitors to pay unfair rates of Rs. 800 or more. ๐ฐ If you need a ride, walk a little down the road where they canโt see you and book from there. The security staff doesnโt intervene, making this a frustrating issue. ๐จ
The park doesnโt fully justify the ticket price, but with better maintenance and improvements, it could become a top tourist attraction. ๐ฅ Overall, itโs worth visiting for the experienceโyours may be different from mine! ๐
Please remember to keep the environment clean to preserve the natural beauty for future visitors. ๐ฟโป๏ธ
