I had the most enchanting experience at the very old tent (ambalama)located in the midst of a picturesque paddy field. This tent, a relic of a old era, was constructed ages ago when people traversed these lands using cattle carts. It served as a respite for weary travelers, offering them a place to rest and rejuvenate during their journeys. The craftsmanship displayed in the use of timber is truly remarkable, with intricate carvings adorning the timber posts, speaking volumes of the skilled artisans of yesteryears.

Surrounded by vast expanses of lush paddy fields and towering mountains, this location is nothing short of a paradise for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty. The serene atmosphere provides the perfect backdrop for relaxation and taking in the pristine surroundings. The gentle rustling of the leaves, the distant call of birds, and the fresh mountain air create an ambiance that is both soothing and invigorating.

Visiting this small tent felt like stepping back in time, connecting with the old culture of the region. It's a place where one can unwind, soak in the stunning vistas, and bask in the simplicity of life as it once was. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply in need of a break from the modern world, this tent offers a unique and unforgettable experience. My time here was truly magical, and I can't wait to return to this hidden gem in the...

Padiwita Ambalama, and ancient wayside rest lies in middle of a paddy field in the Matale District. History of this Ambalama is not known but it can be presumed that this has been built during the Kandyan kingdom, before the British invasion.

The main route to Matale from Kandy may have been run through this paddy field at some time in the past for the Ambalama to be located here. The Padiwita Ambalama is built on upon a platform raised by granite stumps held by four large wooden beams. The wooden pillars which hold the roof is extensively carved.

The wooden pillars and carvings are said to be deteriorating due to lack of care from the...

A well-known historical site called Padiwita Ambalama may be found 10 minutes south of Matale. Most of the history of this location, which is in the middle of a paddy field, is unknown but can be assumed. Before the British invaded, this monument was constructed under the Kandyan Kingdom's rule. The monument is constructed on a platform supported by four enormous oak beams that are lifted high in the air by granite stumps. Nearby this monument is a sizable well that is the subject of numerous folktales.
