Our visit to Bataatha Agro Technology Park was not a planned one. Even though we have seen the name board and the entrance several times, we didn't even thought that such a large agro park located there. We were returning from our trip to Katharaga and looking for a better place for lunch. Somewhere by the Bataatha, we noticed notice for the big name board “ Hela Bujun Hala” maintain by the department of agriculture. So we decided stop there for lunch. Actually they doesn’t provide typical lunch buffet, but various types of authentic Sri Lankan food items and sweets are prepared freshly and available for sale. We saw a small lake and large park located beyond the food stalls. Other noticeable thing of the park is that the main entrance is located under an archway formed by two clasped hands which is made with cement. We got our lunch from the palace just opposite to the park and decided to have a look on the park. Bataatha agro park has their own carpark inside the premises and even many cars are parked by the main road. You need to pay a small fee of Rs 20/= and buy a ticket to enter the park. Once you enter to the park, you can see the lake more closely and we spotted peacock couple hanging around. In your right handside, you will a small paddy field and a place call "kamatha", which can be used as an open air theater to for any performance. There is a Wee Bissa also located by the Kamatha floor. Wee Bissa was used to store paddy in early days Bataatha Agro Technology park was established in year 2007. The name "Chamal Rajapaksa Agro Park" given to tribute former minister Mr. Chamal Rajapaksha, because this was established under the patronage of him. Agro tourism is not much popular in Sri lanka, but that is one of the idea behind in establishing this park. Same time it help transfer the technology knowledge to farmer and who ever like to maintain their own home garden.
