Read moreThe zipline was amazing, the scenery is stunning! The 3 stars are to point out the go pro camera provided and the free transportation from the finishing point back to the desk of the starting point. The charge for the go pro camera was 6e. Worthless, for me at least. Most of all ,because they give you a selfie stick to hold the camera while you ride down. In my head at least,go pro is placed usually on top of the helmet cause it is about the experience that you want to record ,not your face in a close up, while there is natural magic all around. It felt like a touristic stupidity cause they explained how it's beeing done, after I had paid. The funny thing is that it is settled to be a selfie video and you are not allowed to rotate the camera. Once I realized, it was already late cause I had paid and I was about to start actually. Plus, they hold your passport as a deposit for the go pro, so you are supposed to bring it back after, not leave it before the flight. So that was already done, and it was super distracting to hold a joystick ,trying to check what it records, instead of just...living the experience of flight. Apart from that, the transportation back up to the starting point was with a 4×4 diy car for more than 8 people, driving like CRAZY in a very bad road with a lot of potholes, and steep turns. For people with physical conditions like lower back issues (like me) there was no warning for that and more than 3 times I literally jumped up because of the crazy driving and landed badly down on the tough seat causing me reinjuries at my lower back. On top, they were transferring the equipment of the ziplie (helmets ect) in plastic tanks inside the vehicle, with us on the back, without any rope or sth to hold it safely, hitting me on the legs and generally we were trying to survive inside that car. It was really disappointing and marked the hole experience under the touristic facade that western people like us are supposed to fulfill in these kind of activities without being treated like humans as well, but as pockets with money. Not flattering at all but mostly, not safe at all. P.s. if you go there with a tuk tuk (we had rented one) the "road" is extremely dangerous too, be really careful cause the locals say that is fine, but is a near death experience, plus the way tuk tuk drivers drive. Not an excuse for that, specially if we take into consideration the super lux bamboo club that they have built in the...
Read moreFlying Ravana is the first ever zip line with two wire stretches located in Sri Lanka. From Ella railway station it is about 2km to reach here and is closer to Little Adam’s peak. The distance between the two ends is about 550m and slides at around 80kmph. From the start point to the end it takes only few minutes to reach it but it was so thrilling which provides an adrenaline kick and also treats you with a beautiful aerial view of the tea estates and the hills.
This is provided by Flying Ravana, charged us Rs 2,000 for the zipline, where they provide safety equipments and a locker to keep your belongings with a key. There is a weight limit, that is minimum 30kg and maximum 110kg, we also need to sign a consent form before getting on to the zipline. Once our turn comes they would inform us, from the locker to the start point we need to go about 500m and then they explain on what to do and what not to do and they also connect our cord to the pulleys that are connected with the wire stretches, they also check the straps and ensure that everything is safe for the ride. They communicate through a walkie talkie from the start and the end point to make sure everything is clear. Once it’s confirmed we start the journey, within few minutes we reach to the end point. A Go pro could be obtained for additional cost, but they only allow to take videos from your mobile phones during the zipline if you buy a mobile pouch from them which seems a bit unfair as it is anyway left to our own risk.
From the end point they provide transportation back to the top to collect our belongings from the locker. Even though the zipline journey takes only few minutes, we had to wait until our turn came. We were categorized in to a batch for both the zipline and for the transportation back to locker. So, we had to wait for our batch’s turn to come at the start point and at the end point. We had to wait until all the batch members to finish to get the transportation. A Bolero Cab was provided to us. It was indeed a worthy experience to try out in Ella and the best place to get the video is from the cafe located near the ticket counter, so ask someone to get a video from there even when you have a go pro or a pouch you carry out to take a video...
