I have made many foot massages in my life. In different Asian and European countries. Here at this place, it was the worst one ever . i walked in this cosy and beautiful spa studio , hoping for a relaxing foot massage after a long hiking day. Half an hour later I went out with horrible cramps and pain in my legs. Luckily my hotel was not far away! No wonder it ended that way. When the girl started the massage I immediately felt that she does not actually know what she is doing. But fine, I thought she would be learning and it did not mean the massage would be bad. However few minutes later she started to push so hard and wild onto my legs I had to cry out loud. Unprepared legs, without any preliminary warm up, and such a deep slide with very strong fingers - that provoked a first cramp. I asked her to be less strong. She quite ignored me. While massage she was whispering something to another lady and even laughing. I quite regret myself being polite and having suffered through it and even paid for it. A cherry on top: you should have seen her saying : all okay ? And not waiting for an answer.
Overall, I suspect few things: Lady is not qualified OR she has some sadist traits . Or both.
My recommendation: to avoid at all costs .
At night right after, my legs hurt all over the place as if I was beaten. I could barely sleep. Not they are unqualified , they are dangerous. If you still take a risk to go, stop immediately when you feel...
Read moreI opted for a 2h Ayurvedic package which made for a novel and unique experience. The therapist was lovely - she did an especially good job with my legs. Herbal tea was served before and after the treatment, which was a nice touch.
What I did not like: 1) Walking past a construction site to get to the shower to get the oils off. 2) The fact that they don’t provide disposable undergarments. Please bring an extra pair - you’ll need it by the end of the steam bath and sauna, as they don’t provide disposables. 3) Being massaged from the feet up. I felt like the dirt from my feet got smeared all over my face. I’ve since broken out… which almost never happens! :/ The head pillow and bed linen felt damp. I’m not sure how often they swap out the linens.
It’s a decent spa and probably one of the better ones in Ella. Just a little rough around the edges.
Note: You’ll have to walk up a steep hill to get to the spa, which is definitely not be for everyone. It’s a short 2 min climb but probably inconvenient for people with...
Read moreNot sure if this Hela Osu Suwapiyasa Ayurvedic Spa had actually been awarded 5 stars by Tripadvisor. If it really does then moving forward, I'll never trust the reviews on TripAdvisor.
There are several branches in Ella. I would say that all the 'spa' are fake and the locals warned us about them. The only ones worth visiting are those in Sigiriya. Ella is way too commercialized. As for this 'spa', all the masseuses are not trained and very unprofessional. They will actually send a man to attend to a woman for a full body massage. This will perhaps only happen in Ella. They will refer to the price list which state a full body massage at 5000 rupees. Then tell you there's a discount at 3000 rupees. We brought it down to 2500 rupees but soon realized that their street touts were telling passer-bys that full body massages start at 2500 rupees. I reckon it is no more than 1500 rupees. But we cancelled and left. It was horrible and unprofessional.
