Brownsberg is an amazing nature park. The way to the top is a real off-road way. The way is mostly red of the bauxite and on your left and right is ravine. It's only 13 kilometers but because of the way it took me with my SUV 2 hours. But don't be afraid, you won't get bored, because of the beauty of the rainforest and the excitement of climbing the way up with your car. You can also book a tour. When you're on the top you check in at the reception so they know there are people going into the forest. From the reception you can go to outlook points with an amazing view. You can also walk to a natural swimming opportunity. And to waterfalls, there are different waterfalls on Brownsberg, bigger ones and smaller ones.: Leoval, Ireneval, Kumboval. At the reception you get a map to the waterfalls and the walking times. The most short from the reception is Leoval, 40minutes where I went. It's very beautiful in the middle of the rainforest but not easy. Good clothes for this kind of places are highly recommended. But overall...
Read moreVery sad example of a national park. The road/trail to the park, even during the dry season, is nearly impassable. Very little wildlife which is usually a sign that people are hunting bushmeat and the animals avoid humans at all costs. The view of Brokopondo reservoir is wonderful. The natural setting is beautiful and it's too bad no one...
Read moreA visit to Surinam is not complete without seeing a bit of rainforest which they say covers 93% of their territory (although the extent of mining could call that figure into question). Here at Brownsberg you will have a decent intro to the forest, a couple of easy walking trails, cabins that you can rent out with basic infrastructure. Not fancy and quite a bit run down. Hopefully they can recover the structures and reactivate the place and introduce better waste...
