A calm and beautiful sand spit located at the mouth of the estuary. You can spot sea turtle tracks along the shore, watch driftwood washed up by the tide, and see boats—big and small—passing by up close. It's a popular spot for bathing and fishing. During my visit, I saw different bird species, a raccoon, and even a sea turtle peeking through the water. However, the place is not well maintained—there's a lot of trash, and sadly, evidence of illegal sea turtle egg collection. I learned that there used to be a ranger station here to keep the area safe and clean, but it was destroyed in a storm and hasn’t been rebuilt. There are no shelters, so be prepared for direct sun or rain exposure. Despite the issues, the area still holds a lot of natural beauty and wildlife.

As part of the Commewijne district in Suriname the location called Braamspunt" is the Nort part of the "wild Coast at the Atlantic ocean . you can reach there by boat. Charter a boat from New-Amsterdam or Leonsberg at the north part of Paramaribo. Along the way you can see how fisherman are working with their nets and at the Braamspunt beach you might encounter huge sea turtles. This protected area is the nesting ground of the Warana, Crappe or leather-back turtle.

It was a long boat ride but totally worth it. The place is pretty calming how the waves hit the beach and seeing amazing wildlife crabs, birds , turtles etc. I must say the sunset is pretty amazing.

Beautiful location along the coastline of North Commewijne. The beach stretches for a very long distance along the coast, you can also find nesting grounds for sea turtles in this area. You can reach this place by boat only. You can find those around Blauwgrond usually. People usually combine a trip to Braamspunt together with dolphin spotting or a tour along the old plantations of Commewijne. This is also a very good location to do Kite surfing, it’s quite windy. There are no people living there, only a few fishermen who live on the beach, they have made huts where they stay and work. They also have some dogs, so best to avoid that part, because in my experience they do litter sometimes. Good location to spend the day (picnic), bring plenty of sunscreen. Be very careful when you decide to go swimming here, because there was an incident on 20 Feb 2021 where 2 teenagers drowned, swept by the current. People used to dig sand with excavators there so there might be deeper parts along the beach or even unstable sand parts. Many people have advised not to swim there, the DC of Commewijne should really put signs warning...
