Already went on a trip previously with Kankantrie Tour & Catering, to Royal Resort Masia and this time to Galibi. All good memories of and satisfied with the Royal Resort Masia trip as this eco resort is worth visiting to enjoy and experience the Amazon in Suriname. And well organized by Rodney Felter who's organizing the trips, being the guide and cook during the trip. But this time, to Galibi, I was a bit disappointed as I'm a very active person when doing trips, can't sit down doing nothing, I like to go and explore. The thing what I really didn't like was that on one day what was scheduled, namely to go to Tijgerbank (Suriname famous sandbank), was cancelled without even consulting with us the visiting tourists. I really wanted to go there as it's a landmark and something to explore. Instead we stayed at the resort doing nothing, just hanging out in the hammock being sleepy.
So I just went out by myself, walking around Galibi to see if I could find someone with a boat that offers a day trip to Tijgerbank. Unfortunately, during my walk and quest to find a way to Tijgerbank I met those who apparently are the ones that offer the boat ride and they said that their boat has left since Rodney had cancelled the trip in the morning. I was pissed to be honest, because he did so without letting us know and plus there were no other options available for those who want to do something active. I mean if you cancel something, at least make sure that tourists have options to do things by themselves. I would've appreciated if the resort Galibi itself had like more initiatives by locals that offer boat rides, so one can take such a boat and pay the boatman to bring you to surrounding locations where you need a boat to get to, like Tijgerbank. It's a pain to rely and be dependent on operators, I'm more an independent explorer when travelling, just give me the options. Next time, as tip to them, let them confirm us first what activities are on the schedule and in case of cancellation provide options.
Other than that, Galibi is also a beautiful eco resort where you can see one of the biggest sea turtles laying their eggs during season on the beach in Galibi and you can stroll around in mother nature. They provided a traditional indigenous performance with dance, it could have been longer and more festive for my taste (as I'm also partially of indigenous descent and already familiar with the music and know how fun it can be). It's a quiet place, nothing much to do, the other big thing would be visiting Tijgerbank, so that's why my...
Read moreI had a magical experience at Galibi years ago, with the boat trip and the turtles hiding their eggs at night. I will certainly come back to see the little ones hatch. The accommodation was basic, the sunrise at the waterfront unbelievable. On the way to Gailibi we visited Saint-Laurent, and the transportation camp where Papillon...
Stop...
