Ten is one of Sweden's largest waterfalls, and we recommend you visit it. The waterfall is wild, with the water falling 38 meters. It is 60 meters wide. When there is the most water in the falls, it would only take a quarter of an hour to fill the entire large arena, Globen, in Stockholm. Tännforsen is always exciting to visit. The nature and experiences have fascinated writers, artists, and tourists for several hundred years. Old, beautiful forest Around the waterfall grows a thick and dense forest with shaggy trees. The ground is covered in moss. It's easy to start imagining and seeing the ugly trolls and beautiful fairies from fairy tales. The area around Tännforsen is unusual due to the steady and high humidity created by the waterfall's mist. Therefore, there are rare and very special plants and animals in the area. Tourists arrived in the 19th century The first tourists came when Skalstugevägen was renovated in 1835. At that time, King Karl XIV Johan was present. Back then, visitors had to take a boat across Tännsjön to the northern side of the waterfall, as there was no road. In the early 1900s, the Tännforsen tourist station and the road to it were built. Therefore, it is easy to reach Tännforsen today. The waterfall Tännforsen has been threatened several times by hydroelectric development. The most recent occurrence was in the 1940s when the National Power Board wanted to build large dams and flood the area. At that time, Tännforsen would have dried up and died. However, local residents did not want Tännforsen to become silent. They put up strong resistance, and eventually, the waterfall was protected. Since 1971, it has been a nature reserve and is a very popular destination.

I recently visited Tännforsen, Sweden's largest and perhaps most beautiful waterfall, and it was an absolutely incredible experience. Located about 20 kilometers west of Åre, this magnificent waterfall drops almost 40 meters and spans a width of 60 meters, creating a breathtaking display of nature's power and beauty. The journey to Tännforsen is very accessible, with well-marked trails leading you through a scenic nature reserve. The path from the tourist station to the waterfall is about a kilometer long and takes around 30 minutes, offering numerous vantage points along the way. Each season transforms Tännforsen into a different spectacle: in spring, the melting snow creates an awe-inspiring torrent of water; in winter, the waterfall freezes into stunning ice formations. During my visit, I was particularly enchanted by the lush, moss-covered forest surrounding the falls. The humid air from the waterfall supports a unique ecosystem, including several rare lichen species. The sound of the rushing water, combined with the sight of double rainbows forming in the mist, made the experience almost surreal. The tourist station offers a great place to rest and enjoy local cuisine, with a restaurant serving delicious meals and a shop selling Sami handicrafts. The historical significance of Tännforsen, with its early tourism dating back to the 19th century, adds an extra layer of charm to the visit. In summary, Tännforsen is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Sweden. Its natural beauty and the serene environment make it a perfect destination for nature lovers and adventurers alike. Highly recommended!

Note that we visited the waterfall in winter. The best part about this sight is that one need not invest a lot in terms of time and distance. It's quite close to Åre and en route Trondheim so 1-2 hours is more than enough. If you plan to visit in winter, ensure that you get some info from the nearby tourist info. or the locals regarding the road condition in case of snow. It may take some time for the maintenance authorities to clean up that road. One has to park the vehicles near the STF Tännforsens Turiststation and pay for the parking+visit. From here, it's a walk of around 200mt. There seem to be several entries to the waterfall but due to the snow cover, we couldn't explore much.

It’s a wow! So much water :) Pretty impressive place to visit when you’re at Åre. A quick 10mins drive from the Centre. Adequate parking spots and it’s pram friendly until the view point. There’s a ramp on which you could walk down and get a close view of the water gushing down. After the fall, water spreads out and the view is pretty massive. I read during spring about 790 cubic meters of water flows every second. Just to compare, average flow in a shower at home is 0.000131 cubic meters per second😊

Tannforsen is the largest waterfall in Sweden and has a bewitching beauty of nature. Tannforsen (officially written as Tännforsen) is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sweden and is located near Duved (Åre) in the region Jämtland, Sweden. Tännforsen is the biggest waterfall of Sweden, regarding the volume. In springtime the volume of the river Åreälven can increase to an enormous volume of 740 m3/sec (measured in 1995)

Sweden's largest waterfall with roaring cascades did not disappoint. Trails and lookout points are well planned, relatively easy and bring you up close to experience the mighty rush of raging waters racing over formidable rocks. If you are bringing kids, make sure you keep them close when near the falls as the ground is wet and slippery.
