My wife and I went dog sledding with Kiruna Husky in March 2018 and it was honestly one of the best experiences in our lives so far. We did the Overnight Aurora Tour which involved a night time husky ride, an overnight stay in an igloo and another day time husky ride and included the 3 corresponding meals.
The tour itself is everything they describe on the website and more. The tour starts with us wearing the winter overalls that need to be worn on top of our already heavy clothes. They have all the equipment needed to keep us warm and all the equipment was of really good quality. We were then introduced to the dogs that would be pulling our sleds and I must say that the dogs were extremely friendly, in great condition and you can tell that they were cared for extremely well. Then came the sled-driving instructions. The guides make sure to prepare you for every possibility and it did seem a little daunting when they were explaining it to us, but it was all necessary and gave us the confidence to independently handle our sleds and the dogs that were pulling them.
Riding the sleds when its -25 C, in the dark with the white of the snow and the little headlights that we wore lighting the way was a surreal experience. The hour long husky ride in the night is followed by snacks and dinner in the Samii tent around a crackling fire. The food and snacks were local and delicious.
We didn't quite know what spending the night in an igloo would entail, but it is as authentic as you could imagine. The small structures were constructed a few days ago out of ice and snow, had small openings we had to crawl through and sleep in. They provided us with top quality sleeping bags and mattresses to use inside the igloos. I wouldn't say it was the most comfortable night's sleep, but it certainly was a very memorable one. In the morning, we woke up early to get some pictures, watch the huskies being fed, get some breakfast and do the next even longer husky tour which this time was driven by my wife who was initially super nervous but ended up being a pro. After the ride, you even get to unharness the huskies, remove the cute socks they wear and lead them to their kennels. After a satisfying lunch, we were driven back to Kiruna.
The huskies are amazing and we were happy that we had so much time to spend petting/cuddling/interacting with them and they seemed to love it as well. The guides - Sebastian (the owner), Nicole, Patrick and Chiara are fantastic, super friendly and were happy to answer all our questions. It was fascinating to hear them talk about the personalities of the different huskies and the different kinds of relationships they have with the other dogs. The only regret we may have is that we weren't lucky with the northern lights during the one night we spent there. But hey, it probably means that we will come back again and next time do a longer tour with Kiruna Husky. A proper 5...
Read moreMy partner and I had the pleasure of booking the Aurora Musher tour through Kiruna Guidetour, and it was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism that set the tone for the rest of the evening.
Our guide, Sarah, was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Her passion for her work was evident and added a personal touch to our experience. She was more than happy to answer our questions and share interesting facts about the dogs and the area.
Speaking of the dogs, they were the stars of the show. The team, mostly composed of Alaskan huskies, were in excellent condition. It was clear that they were well cared for and loved their job. We even had the opportunity to help them stretch after the tour, which was a unique and enjoyable experience.
The gear provided was top-notch. We were two people in each sled, which gave us a genuine musher experience. The sled was comfortable and warm for the person not driving and was very clean. The overalls, boots, accessories, and headlamps kept us warm during the ride and added to the overall experience.
But the highlight of the tour was undoubtedly the northern lights. We were fortunate to witness a long and intense aurora display that lasted the entire duration of our tour (approximately 3 hours). The sight was out of this world and something we will never forget.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend Kiruna Husky Tours to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable experience. The combination of the friendly guides, happy and healthy dogs, high-quality gear, and the breathtaking northern lights made this tour a...
Read moreWow! What an experience. We took the morning husky tour. We were picked up at 09.00 from Kiruna centrum and dropped off at 14.00 . It is approximately 30 minutes transfer time from pick up to the dogs. All dog seem to be very well cared for which was a joy to see. You are given warm overalls, boots, gloves, socks to wear if you wish, or to enhance your own clothes as it is a cold adventure. You have a good lesson in harnessing the dogs and how to drive the sled and what to do should you tip over. Thay complete, it of on a scenic and breathtaking ride. Pausing to check all are ok until you reach halfway and swap rider and passenger. The second half is slightly more forgiving terrain. There is a sledding liner and a reindeer skin to sit on in the sled. When you return you learn how to unhitch the dogs and massage their legs post run. Then into the yurt to sit round the fire and eat soup and toasted breads. (Vegans catered for) Coffee and cookies before a final farewell to the dogs and back to the mini bus. Your bags are locked in a dressing room whilst out on the ride. There is a toilet available if desperate. Martin was our guide and he took some photos with our own mobiles halfway . This is a fabulous and once in a lifetime experience. I highly recommend Kiruna husky due to the very obvious care they take of their dogs. Thank you Martin for a most...
