Naturum Laponia — Attraction in Gällivare kommun

A great place to learn about the Lapponia region! Mountain ecology, reindeer herding, the relationship of the Sáppmi people to the landscape... You name it. It is fun for kids too, with animals on display, some tactile objects and a kids' corner. Staff is friendly and up for a chat (also in English). The Naturum Visitor Centre is ideal to help you plan trips in the surroundings, with access to maps and staff guidance. The area around the Naturum is beautiful and fairly easy to cross. -- If you are in need of a 'fika', their coffee and small dishes can help too. Prices are not expensive at all. Das Naturum Laponia ist ein beeindruckendes Besucherzentrum im Herzen des Laponia-Welterbes – ein Ort, der Kultur, Geschichte und atemberaubende Natur auf ganz besondere Weise verbindet. Die Architektur des Gebäudes allein ist schon einen Besuch wert: Es fügt sich harmonisch in die Landschaft ein und wirkt wie eine moderne Interpretation samischer Bauweise.

Im Inneren bekommt man einen tiefen Einblick in die samische Kultur, Spiritualität und Lebensweise – mit einer besonderen Achtung vor der Natur, den Jahreszeiten und der Verbindung zwischen Mensch, Tier und Umwelt. Die Ausstellungen sind liebevoll gestaltet, mehrsprachig und sehr informativ – auch für Kinder geeignet.

Besonders beeindruckend ist die Verbindung aus Naturwissenschaft und indigenem Wissen. Man spürt, dass dieser Ort nicht nur ein Museum ist, sondern ein lebendiges Zentrum für Identität und Respekt vor dem Leben in und mit der Natur.

Ein besonderes Highlight ist auch das kleine Café vor Ort. Dort kann man wunderbar eine Pause einlegen. Die Waffeln mit frischen Himbeeren sind ein absolutes Muss – warm, knusprig und einfach köstlich. Auch Sandwiches und andere Kleinigkeiten werden angeboten – perfekt für einen stärkenden Zwischenstopp.

Ein idealer Startpunkt für Wanderungen in das Laponia-Gebiet und für alle, die mehr über die Geschichte, Spiritualität und Bedeutung dieser einzigartigen Region erfahren möchten.

I visited winter time and we were the first visitor that day, the staff - Amanda, was really the warmest person :) she gave us a tour of the place and was really accommodating and helpful in every possible way.
