We went this monday as on Saturday and Sunday entrance prices were even higher, like 399 SEK. Entrance price on the web site mentioned was 199 sek per person but when we wanted to book it was suddenly 299 for no apparent reason.
We found the same things that other low-star reviews write about: Many animals appear not to be in their designated spaces or access to the spaces has been closed off Spaces for some animals like the eagles and bears and the european wild cats are pretty small, specially the bears looked quite bored and unhappy Each and every corner where you can get drinks was closed. When they are open you pay 39 SEK for a small can of coke - that is way overpriced even for Swedish standards No numbered signs or clear walking route, no offer of a map of the park at the entrance People at the entrance do not appear to speak English, while everyone else in the area seems to speak at least some basic English. They keep rattling Swedish even though you make clear you don't understand a word they say. Theatre and a lot of other theme park attractions: music on but nothing happening, or simply closed. Haven't seen any animals been fed, not even at the times mentioned in the app Haven't seen any animals being taken care of, one raccoon appeared to lie dead (actually dead, not just sleeping) in the cage, and one bear missed hair on its back due to stress Enormous walking distances, including some steep slopes, don't go here if you are not good at walking or if you are already tired Place can't seem to choose if they want to be a Shaun the Sheep theme park, a Dinosaur theme park, a camping, a farm or a zoo, so they are a bit of it all but none of it is really convincing or a strongpoint At the end of the afternoon we were supposed to pay another 50 SEK for leaving the parking. After being fooled with the higher entrance price we didn't feel like paying even more and we managed to just sneak out. We understand they need income to keep a big place running, but if they get income they also are supposed to give something back like staffing the restaurants, cleaning the toilets, doing some shows and actually having animals in their space.
All and all, despite the effort put in to build it all up and the terrain being large and beautiful and lots of different things to be seen in theory, it's a bit underwhelming. We are fairly experienced travellers and have seen other zoos and theme parks that were way better and entertaining and more sticking to one theme. This place might need new management with a clear vision.
I don't want to make this a one star review, some good points: we did enjoy seeing the lynxes and the mooses and the seals place appeared reasonably maintained (it took 3 staff members to paint one fence plank, 2 to watch and one to actually paint) we did enjoy the beautiful terrain, the little huts with a stool, the picnic tables the shaun the sheep scene looked good and the stuff for smaller children is good enough to keep them entertained for a while
Advice if you go: Book and pay online 2 days in advance and visit on a weekday Bring your own food and drinks Bring good walking shoes and don't carry heavy stuff Don't expect to be fully entertained all day, 4-5...
Read moreIt's a great park but a terrible zoo. The chances for you to see any other than farm animals are extremely low, unless you literally spend the whole day (and potentially night in there).
I get it, they wanted to make a zoo that operates on the terms of the animals, it just doesn't really work for the audience. I think they should market the place as "activity park, where you may see some animals too" but the entrance ticket of 300SEK is just too steep to go for a walk in the park.
The distances are really long, expect walking 10km+ to go around the whole park. Some other parks, such as Knuthenborg and Givskud Zoo in Denmark, have solved this issue by making the park as safari park where you can drive around instead. It works way better for small children and adults who don't want to spend hours and hours on walking, getting exhausted.
I give the 2 stars for the dinosaur experience and the tractor ride. If you love hiking and having the opportunity to see some animals, want to spend the whole day out, cook your own food etc. this is probably worth the experience. Just don't go with small children and don't hype the kids going to a zoo seeing a lot of animals, because most likely they don't.
P.S. Ranua Zoo in Northern Finland has the same idea, where animals are in large areas and they have somehow manage to solve the issue, you can pretty much guaranteed always see animals there. I think they just have more animals and the walking paths are often elevated so you can easily see...
Read moreNice park that is really a theme park/playground combined with a zoo/animal park. The place is well kept and you can tell a lot of effort has been put into the attractions! Cool new dinosaur feature and the ”Shaun the sheep land” is very nice for the kids. One of the best attractions is the walkway in the trees, a massive structure of bridges and walkways high up in the trees. Parking is not included in the price and I’d recommend bringing your own lunch/fika. There are places to eat or fika, but they get crowded really quickly. There are a few downsides however; some of the attractions have really long wait times, such as the tractor ride at the “Shaun the sheep land” and the tree walkway, to name a few. I don’t understand why the management don’t implement a better system of slot times, which would be easy to do especially with todays prevalence of smartphones. So prepare to wait for up to an hour in line with your kids for some of the attractions… not so good. Some of the kids playgrounds have an abundance of nettles in them… I know these are fast growing weeds, but could be good to clear when there are a literal sea of then all around the kids “pony ride” course. Overall I’d say that it’s more of a themepark/amusement park rather than an animal park. Nothing bad in that, just an...
