One of the most amazing castle ruins that I've seen. The castle is next to the highway which makes it quite a popular place for those that are stopping for a short break, and if you're a history person, then you will definitely enjoy every single bit of this place. If you are staying in Gränna you can hike to this place. The hiking is through a hiking trail which at one point is closed with a gate, however, you don't need to ask for permission, as you can just go through and get to this place. This is called allemansrätt. On the way you will see Brahehus Wind Farm which is another extraordinary feature of the area. Once at the ruins, you can hike in the back and have an amazing overview of the lake with Visingsö Island in the background. The castle is not well protected with a fence where there is a high ground, so if you are coming with children, be extra careful. Overall, this is definitely one of the highlights...
Read moreI remember this place from my childhood. It was a must-stop on the way from Stockholm to Helsingborg and vice versa. The castle ruins haven’t changed much in 30 years. They still offer a truly beautiful vista over Lake Vättern. The kids loved the ruins too. Definitely a must-stop.

She died, however, a couple of years later, and the castle came to be used as guest accommodation instead. After being ravaged by a fire in 1708, it fell into decay. Some restoration work has been done during the...

The ruins sit 270 m (890 ft) above sea level and 180 m (590 ft) above the lake Vättern, providing a panoramic view of the lake and the island of Visingsö. Built for and named after Count Per Brahe the Younger in the 1640s, the castle was abandoned by the 1680s and suffered a fire in 1708. The castle is near the modern E4 highway and is a popular destination for recreation and tourism. Of course i will recommend this place to everyone who will visit Sweden 🇸🇪 and i will recommend to everyone who will visit...
