Overall, after it was all said and done, we had an amazing experience. But the lead-up to it was pretty stressful and confusing. We only participated in the activity--we didn't stay at the Turistation hotel, so we only had the information we received via email and on the confirmation to go on. There needs to be better instructions on how to get to the Turistation and what to expect on the tour. We thought the only way to get from Abisko Mountain Lodge to the Turistation was to take a taxi, but we learned later that there were other options. Our taxi fell through so we had to WALK-45 minutes in the freezing cold. We were not expecting that. The Google map took us to the train station, not the hotel, so we ended up walking an extra 20 minutes. Getting home was really stressful. I couldn't find a taxi company that would pick us up at 01:30 and had NO IDEA there was a BUS!!! The tour details only say that the tour ends at 01:30. It doesn't say anywhere that you can end the tour whenever you want! We saw options for transportation between 23:30 and midnight but didn't think those would be options for us since the tour wasn't supposed to end until after 01:00. It wasn't clearly stated that we would be given a thermal suit to wear. I figured it out at the last minute but it wasn't clear if there would be storage space for any items we wanted or needed to remove before putting on the suit. I tried emailing STF with my questions but the responses weren't helpful. The transportation bit is key! We were so stressed that we wouldn't be able to get to the meeting point on time and that we might forfeit our tour and the HIGH COST as well. We ended up having to walk back to Abisko town at the end of the tour as well. It was SO COLD and not the easiest walk, even though the path is fairly well lit. The food at the dinner was delicious and we met some nice people sitting at the long table. The sky station is super cozy and warm inside, so it's the ideal place to be able to pop outside to see the lights when/if they happen, and then pop back inside when you get cold. The chair lift experience was quite an adventure, too. We got lucky and saw lights on our night, so that made the entire...
Read moreTwo stars only because the northern lights were nice but that has nothing to do with the ridiculous service on display, otherwise it would be worse. Visit on a good day for the location but dont expect anything from the company.
Left our coats at the chairlift station to change into overalls as instructed by the staff Christopher. But he failed to do his job and let our guests wear our jackets. Leaving us having to wait till 1.30am for the guest to come down before we could leave and drive back to Kiruna in snowy conditions.
No service recovery efforts are made at all other than empty apologies. The staff in question Christopher that failed to do his job didn’t even apologise and was just so indifferent about it. He even suggested we go back to our hotels and he will let us know when he gets updates (without our jackets and at -10 degrees to do a 1.5km walk back to our car)
Management reached out to apologise but no service recovery efforts once again which annoyed me. Only after weeks of email exchanges, they only offered 50% refund due to...
Read moreI would not recommend booking the Aurora Sky Station in advance. Our experience was disappointing due to poor communication and an inadequate alternative program.
The chairlift was canceled due to cold weather (-17°C at the bottom, which isn't unusual for the area). We were told we could rebook for the next day if there were spots available, which they told us there weren't. However, when we checked the booking screens in the lobby, we saw three spots open. When we asked to be rebooked (we were only two people), they suddenly claimed three spots weren’t enough. It felt misleading and unfair.
The alternative activity was a letdown: an outdated PowerPoint presentation with information easily found online, followed by a walk to a small hut with snacks and drinks. While the hut was cozy, it was nowhere near worth the high ticket price.
Save your money and don't book in advance—wait until you’re sure the chairlift...
