För sextio miljoner år sedan var Ivön en holme i havet ett hav med mycket rikt djurliv. Hajar fanns där och jätteödlor som kunde bli ända upp till 15 m långa. Vid ugnsmunnarna på Ivö har man funnit fossila hajtänder samt tänder, kotor och andra skelettdelar från jätteödlor. Ugnsmunnarna kan liknas vid strandgrottor i kalkberget. Den djupaste grottan går 18 meter in i berget.Runt Ivön är faktiskt ett av de fossilrikaste...

Fint naturreservat i underbar lövskog och imponerande grottor i strandkanten. Parkering uppe vid vägen har plats för tre bilar, vilket lätt blir överfullt. Gång- och cykelvägen ner till grottorna går genom både betes-, åker- och skogsmark. Vid vårt besök var det både kor med tjurkalvar, vete, råg och korn i gyllene kulörer.
