On the south end of beautiful Lake Siljan you'll find this gem. A wonderful nature reserve with a watchtower, some shops and restaurant. We came for a walk and this place offers to trails with fantastic views over the lake and the town.
The small trail more or less just goes around the watchtower, but is suitable for almost everyone. And there's some game/quiz for kids to enjoy. It's only about 500-600m long (Bumble-Bee trail).
For a warm-up we followed this trail. It has a great vista-point (with a bench) with wonderful views. But after that we followed to longer (1.6km) Forest Trail. It is pretty narrow at some points, so it's definitely not for everybody (even less for strollers - impossible). But we really enjoyed the nature here, you're really right inside the forest. There were almost no visitors that day, which added to the nice experience. Just us and the nature (and our dog, which loved it as well). Interesting was the part about the burnt forest here - with plates explaining the fact in swedish and english.
It's no the biggest place and the walk are quite short, but it's a wonderful place, perfect to spend an afternoon. Free parking and no entrance fee. Bathrooms are to be found in the informative...
Read more(English text below.)
Avery good place to visit! Recommended and worth a visit. There at least one coffee shop with some food options (coffee Buffils Anna). A fairly newly built Nature museum (free to visit) with a newly built observation tower that provides a fantastic view of the surrounding areas, including Lake Siljan. Educational and well-structured exhibition about animals and plants in nature, as well as about the geology that is such a central and important part of the Siljan area. Plenty of parking spaces. Accessibility is an easy road up to the Nature museum, but in places a little sloping. But there is also the possibility of driving the car to the parking lot at the Nature museum for those who need to get close. There is a lift in the observation tower. This is also an important place to visit within the...
Read moreI have visited several nature rooms in Sweden and I rate this as the best, till date.
They have extensive information ranging from forests to meteors, animals to clouds. I could spend an entire day just absorbing that.
The topmost point of the tower provides an enchanting view of the lake Siljan and the surrounding landscape. The binocular placed on the topmost point has a range of 70km. They have provided direction-wise plotting of visible places.
A must-visit if one is...
