The gammelgård (“old farmhouse”) is for good reasons UNESCO world heritage listed and beautiful, remarkable and well worth a visit. What I want to emphasise here though is 1) the fantastic whole hamlet of Fågelsjö (“bird lake”) with its original well-kept houses and beautiful scenery, 2) its many friendly inhabitants who make visitors feel very welcome and 3) last and absolutely not least the café in the big red building (the “new” farmstead which replaced gammelgården). The café is run by a lovely Thai lady who both knows Thai hospitality at its best and knows about Swedish home cooking. Do yourselves a GREAT favour and have a meal or at least a bulle (sweet Swedish pastry role) and a cup of coffee there (open 10-17 in summer, remaining time of the year I am not sure) - enjoy the food, the hospitality, the serene surroundings and a moment which will linger in your memory. And yes, there is a kids’ playground, a spot to park your motor home overnight, and the possibility to rent a boat or a kayak. Did I mention the fishing? Enjoy! It does not come...

This place has a fascinating history going back about 500 years where the area and the homestead evolved from wilderness to prosperity and finally to a tourist destination. Because the inhabitants built their new home and just left their old home a hundred years ago history has been preserved – like an archeological site but with no digging required. You should visit if you're interested in people and history. Also, there's a nice café and beautiful...

What an idyllic village full of beautiful houses! Here you can easily forget that you live in a world which is at the brink of WW3 and nuclear annihilation. And the best is the welcoming smile of the Thai lady in the café! The best place in Sweden where I stayed with my camper...
