The gammelgård (“old farmhouse”) is for good reasons UNESCO world heritage listed and beautiful, remarkable and well worth a visit. What I want to emphasise here though is 1) the fantastic whole hamlet of Fågelsjö (“bird lake”) with its original well-kept houses and beautiful scenery, 2) its many friendly inhabitants who make visitors feel very welcome and 3) last and absolutely not least the café in the big red building (the “new” farmstead which replaced gammelgården). The café is run by a lovely Thai lady who both knows Thai hospitality at its best and knows about Swedish home cooking. Do yourselves a GREAT favour and have a meal or at least a bulle (sweet Swedish pastry role) and a cup of coffee there (open 10-17 in summer, remaining time of the year I am not sure) - enjoy the food, the hospitality, the serene surroundings and a moment which will linger in your memory.
