Järvsöbacken — Attraction in Ljusdals kommun

We just spent the best week in Järvsö with our 5 and 7 year old! Both kids took lessons which they found so much fun! My youngest was so afraid before starting and ended up skiing alone and taking small turns on the green/kiddie slope after just 4 days! The mascot Loa was a big help, both to get the kids enthusiastic and to take part in activities during off times. The closeness of everything allowed us parents to go down a few slopes while kids were at their lesson, or enjoying a cup of coffee. Toppstugan Eftertanken was my personal favorite, combining "mysigt" and quality food. We loved skiing on either side of the mountain, which offered both blue safe pists for my youngest and challenging red and black for my oldest. Well-groomed slopes with variety. With some luck with the weather and a good snowfall, the trails are a nice ski. The south side seems less crowded and the queues move faster with the chairlifts. The north side only has buttons & axel lifts and there is sometimes a long wait in line.

When we visited late December, there was 10cm of snow (60cm deep) with a day or two of light fresh snow. Weather was frosty but not too windy. Some parts of the easy, high traffic blue trails were pretty icy and took more effort to get through safely. The days are still short this time of the year so it starts getting dark around 1500.

Such a good skiing/snowboarding place. Button lifts, t-bars and chair lifts. I learned how to snowboard the first day I was here!!! There are ski schools and there are so many different hills to pick of. There are some good cafes and a shop for skiing and snowboarding equipment including hiring skiing and snowboarding equipment!!! This is my first proper skiing trip and it is a really good experience. There are also a free skiing bus and hire a house or going to a hotel really close to the hills!!!😇😇😇 best...
