SkiStar Sälen — Attraction in Malung-Sälens kommun

Updated April '24 After coming to Lindvallen for 10 years with Skistar maybe it was inevitable we'd have a bad experience at some point! but in some ways it's then how the company reacts to that. I think it has lost some of its family friendliness that first attracted us, it's definitely busier and people are just out for themselves a lot. It still has Valley though! Our experience went downhill this year halfway through the week when a group of lads moved into the apartment attached to and above ours.until that point we were looking at rebooking for 24-25. They decided to create a makeshift barbecue outside the front door, which slowly filled our apartment with acrid smoke (burning snowy wet wood). took a short while to realise what was happening and asked them to stop which we were laughed at and turned their music up. After getting in touch with customer support over the phone as it was now out of hours, they said the service crew would come round to check the situation. After another hour they came round could instantly smell the smoke in the apartment, the boys had put out the fire by now, and suggested we just leave the doors and windows open. It's 0 degrees outside, my daughter should be going to bed soon, and the smoke is still affecting breathing in the apartment. After some reluctance customer support did find another apartment, so we then spent a few hours rapidly packing up, moving and unpacking our stuff in the dusk/dark. Left the windows ajar in the original apartment and went back in the morning to check/clear up last bits and it still stunk of smoke. New apartment was less convenient for the slopes and not one we'd have booked originally.

Got back and Skistar make out they did us a massive favour by even letting us switch, because leaving us in the uninhabitable apartment would be the norm. meanwhile our holiday is ruined and the lads got to enjoy their's with no consequences whatsoever, which tells us where their priorities now lie. Rating dropped accordingly.

Been visiting annually from the UK for almost 10 years. Great family skiing, not the height and range of the Alps but obvs better than anything back home but perfect for learners and those less confident who want gentle slopes without being run down. Shame the ski pass no longer includes the swimming, as it was truly like Centerparcs on Snow back then. but still...

La station Sälen où Hundfjället ou nous nous trouvions est vraiment un endroit magnifique, jolie. Les petits appartements style Chalet sont très bien décorés et facilement accessible en voiture. L’environnement est très beau et la nature (comme partout en Suède) est omniprésente et cela est très agréable. Ça c’est le point positif ☺️

La station reste toutefois petite à explorer et leS équipements sont archaïques (surtout quand on est habitué à skier en France 🇫🇷). Je comprendrais aisément que Skistar n’investisse pas plus dans les équipements style télésièges (la où leurs tires fesses issues du crétacé tourne toujours) mais quand on pratique des prix de forfait de ski supérieur aux prix des forfaits pour les 3 vallées Val Thorens (650km de pistes à 3500m d’altitude pour 230€ la semaine) je trouve cela vraiment pas raisonnable d’être plus chère !?!? et je trouve que c’est du vol qualifié. Pour rappel Sälen (Hundfjället et Tandådalen ) c’est a 870m d’altitude maximum, même pas 45 km de pistes pour 40 remontées mécaniques dont 35 tires fesses !!! Il ne faut pas abuser, ne venez pas à Salen pour le ski Alpin et encore moins pour le snowboard 🏂 !! Sans compter que sur les 5 télésièges modernes ( chauffés !!!) 2 ferment à 15:30 🕞 !?? Pour vous laisser bloquer en snowboard en bas et être obligé de prendre le tire fesse avec une queue de 400m ( en période de COVID) pour rentrer chez soi ( je précise que nous y étions en Mars donc les nuits tombent vers 18:30)... J’aimerais bien parler à un responsable de Skistar qu’il m’explique pourquoi avoir investi dans la rolls Royce des télésièges et de la fermer aussi tôt !? Cependant, venir en famille à Sälen est parfait voir magique si l’on n’est pas des professionnels du ski Alpin. Le ski nordique est extrêmement bien organisé et apprendre à skier à Sälen est plus encourageant que commencer sur les pistes des Alpes... j’en conviens 😜

Mais restons sérieux le gros point négatif de Sälen c’est Le ski Alpin pas au niveau du tout des grandes stations Européennes (avec activités, restaurant, hébergement, forfaits de ski, etc.) Le produit pourrait être extraordinaire mais il ne l’est pas car il est loin d'être abordable et c’est une colline ce n’est pas une montagne 🤨 Je comprends mieux comment Skistar à pu financer l’Aéroport des montagnes de Scandinavie en pratiquant des prix d’usuriers !!! Arrêtons de rigoler pour les amoureux du ski Alpin ne venez pas à Sälen et prenez un billet d’avion pour les Alpes Française, Italienne, Suisse ou Autrichienne qui vous coûtera le même prix mais avec des vrais montagnes et un vrai ski Alpin... et les activités qui vont avec 🤪 Pour les amoureux de la nature, du ski nordique, des beaux paysages Sälen est parfait pour vous à condition d’avoir le porte-monnaie...

Staying in Vråken 16, Sälen. The owners obviously do not care about their guest experience. Power sockets dangerously overloaded, with cables running through drilled holes in the bed. Curtain rail installed with tiny plugs and toothpicks in a gips wall, falling down. Hot water is dangerously hot, please take care when your kids are washing their hands. Can only use the oven, drying cupboard and sauna individually, the power shorts out if trying to use any of them together. Furniture falling apart. Credit to the cleaners who have done a good job. The owners have literally done the absolute minimum to make this place rentable. Please spend your money somewhere else until the owners and Skistar sort...
