We were really impressed by this elk safari park. For 140kr. per person in our own car, we could go around the safari concourse as often as we liked, but mostly, you see almost all the elks (altogether maybe 20?) on the first tour. As the weather was first very cloudy and later sunny, we dis go around twice to have photos of both light conditions. Some of the elks are quite shy and stand, walk, or lie a bit further away from the roads. Others are really really tame and come to the car windows to be petted, even when you don‘t have food (I am not sure, but I don‘t think you‘re allowed to feed them - not necessary, as they would come to be petted without food). The bison are a bit more rough and we did not dare to open the windows all the way when one approached and scratched its head on our rearview mirror. Other tourists were more courageous and let the bison stick its head in all the way :o !
The park has a nice little petting zoo with goats (there were 6 little ones there, when we were here at the end on June), a nice souvenir shop - also a lot tasteful articles, in my opinion ;) -, a restaurant with mostly burgers and pizza, and a cute 18/19th(?) century-style café where you can get icecream...
Read moreWe visited the park on December the 28th and took our own car.
From november until april there are no train rides, unless you privately pre-book them, so the choice was easy.
Tickets are really expensive and at least if you go by your own car should be all inclusive instead of having to pay by person, especially for families.
At the time we did the "safari" there were very few cars, so we could relax and took our time (2 hours in total).
The train ride is limited to roundabout 50 minutes, so I would totally recommend taking your own car.
Beware that it can get damaged by the elks tough so it really depends when you visit the park (when we visited they just dropped their horns so naturally the elks were pretty lazy).
The Bisons however are really impressive in their appearance and dont shy away the least bit feom the cars neither do the elks.
So better be prepared for that too.
All in all it was a nice - expensive...
Read moreIn case you don't get a chance to spot moose in the wild, this is the place to go to see some. The tour through the park can be either by train or in your own car, which allows you to make as many laps as you prefer. It's really great for visitors that almost every place in the park can be reached and seen, but for the animals it's probably not, since the overall area is quite small, don't get tricked by the "3 kilometer" tour.
In theory, you can drive through the park at your own pace and stop whereever and as long as you want, but there are only a few places where the road allows cars to pass each other, so you'll be in a hurry almost all the time as long as there are other visitors or the train driving through the park. This is better in the bison valley since the road is much wider there, but the more spectacular experience are...
