I have wanted to visit this well renowned coffee shop and pâtisserie and finally got the opportunity while visiting the area.
I was immediately struck by the friendly atmosphere and the very diverse audience – it is clear that this place is Norberg’s (maybe even one of Bergslagen’s) most important establishment and visitors are of all ages and seem to travel here from many different cities. The interiors are clean and really authentic, and it makes me really happy to see how well they restored the original vibe after the devastating arson six years ago.
I tried their signature “Tangotårta” and “Norbergbakelse”. Both pastries looked really elegant, which was a positive surprise (I think I was expecting something more rough with less finish). However, both pastries were too sweet and lacked a complex flavour profile. Unfortunately the Tangotårta didn’t taste any pineapple at all and both pastries mostly tasted sweetened whipped cream.
The waiting lines are long, even on a rainy Tuesday, but the service is speedy and the premises are large, so don’t be intimidated by the line which probably will exceed outside the entrance.
Overall I’m really happy I finally visited Elsas, and although I hoped for more flavours, the atmosphere and the history makes this place worth a visit and I would definitely come back and try some...

Just a few meters and just across the local river you will also find Abrahamsgarden with traditional handcrafted items that will transfer you to the warm embrace of Bergslagen and its iron...
