I need a contact to investigate the family lore. I did look up the mine ownership and did not find my grandfather's name, August Karlsson, but that does not cover the fact that it may have been a lease or some other arrangement.
The family owned a small mining operation known as Silvsberg Gruva or “silver mine” located near Silvsberg just south of Falun. The family came from a line of mining engineers who had been employed by Kopparsberg Gruva also near Falun, Sweden. One of the ancestors bought a tract of land in the wilds and started up his own mining industry. The operation was successful for generations until seeping water finally forced them to close the shafts. The last productive work there was reprocessing the previously reduced ore to produce red powder used in painting houses and barns in Sweden.
