Not the most impressive castle/fortress aesthetically in Scandinavia but it was quite an impressive one in terms of defence capabilities. It is also one of the best preserved medieval castles in Sweden. During the war between Sweden and Denmark 1675-1679 the Swedish king Karl IX ordered that the castle should be destroyed, not to make it a stronghold for the Danish troups. The demolition failed, fortunately for us today. It has been depicted in the novel "Nils Holgerssons underbara resa genom Sverige" by Nobel laureate Selma Lagerlöf which probably is one of the reasons it is so well known in Sweden. If you are in the area, Söderlen (South-West Skåne) it is definitely worth a visit. And yes, you can have coffee there as well.

I visited this place the first time when i was a small kid with my parents. Now this year I brought my own kids to show this castle. And the kids loved it. To see how people cooked and lived so many years ago. This year there was also a new bakery with incredible buns and cakes. Would definitely recommend to make a break and try them out. Definitely worth going here with or without kids. This was my 5th time here. Good stop on the way to the beach or a rainy summer day. Easy to park and honestly quite cheap to enter. I believe it is only open during the summer months.

NOT friendly for elderly or bad walkers. There are no senior/pensioner prices, and when you get up there, the very steep steps mean these guests cannot enter the amazing castle. With an 80 year old, it would have been nice to know this... Otherwise, beautiful and authentic experience despite the closed café and the lack of any English, Danish or any other languages that are not Swedish... Honestly, amazing! Also, the bow and arrow activity was fun and competitive.

Very nice place depicting daily life in the middle age. I did not join the guided visit. Just visit the borg/ house at my own tempo. Impossible for people with dissabilities due to lacking of elevators. Not easy for old people or kids because of many staircases with not equal and slippery steps. Very few furniture inside but some nice carvings/ sculptures. The kitchen where you may see people preparing food as they did at that time dressed as they did, and the room besides with historical information about owners and their time displayed for all ages, complete the indoors visit. Be sure to experience the outdoor activities, among them the highlight is the tournament or fight representation presented twice a day in morning and afternoon. Also exhibited outside you may see a camp with tents showing different activities, like embroidering, making clothes, armour tent. Behind the building you will find the orchard with species from Middle Age cooking. Great sigtseeing for adults and kids. One minus is the difficult access by public transportation. No regular bus teach the place. You have to order 2 hours in advance, or even the day before for early visits, a taxi that replace the bus. For more than 4 persons you have to order 5 days in advance. Check...
