Rock Carvings in Tanum — Attraction in Tanums kommun

This fascinating bronze age rock carvings are listed as an UNESCO world heritage site. The carvings are admission free and open 24 hours. There are information panels around the carvings, and the excellent Vitlycke Museum (free admission) has explanations on the history and meanings behind the carvings. I went in not expecting much, but this place was awesome.

They have done a great job of making the carvings visible and explaining they are so significant. Each sign post I see highlighted a unique aspect of the carvings.

The rock carvings are amazing to see. There are a lot of them in Tanum area, and there are parking places next to the larger ones, with walking routes to the smaller ones + the museum (which we didn't visit). I would recommend going there at summer. We were visiting there in the very beginning of April and a lot of the rock carvings were still covered by ice and snow, though, fortunately...
