First of all, the museum’s seaside location is breathtakingly beautiful, regardless of the time of year when you visit.

In the summer, there are several great places on the adjacent wooden piers and cliffs where you can go for a swim and work on your burgeoning summer tan.

While the museum does have a popular restaurant and café, from around late June, a half dozen nearby seafood restaurants open up .

To be totally honest, as a visual artist, my preconception of watercolor as a medium wasn’t overwhelmingly positive when I walked in to the Nordic Watercolor Museum.

But after spending more than an hour there, I now have a totally different opinion and a lot more respect for the artists that paint with watercolors. I was also genuinely impressed with the museum’s curation and exhibit design.

Folks, this is a top-notch destination for art lovers of all ages – in a stunning seaside location along Sweden’s spectacularly gorgeous west coast.

Highly...

The Watercolor Museum — it might sound a bit dull, especially if, like me, you immediately picture vaguely painted sailboats or cows. But the visit was fantastic. There was an exhibition on Nordic Patterns, which didn’t have much to do with watercolors, but for anyone who loves Scandinavian design, it was absolutely beautiful. To focus only on that exhibition might be a bit unfair, though, because the museum clearly aims to show — also through its permanent collection — that there’s a wealth of modern and innovative work to discover. And even if there isn’t a temporary exhibition that’s quite to your taste, the restaurant alone is worth the visit, with its delicious food and...

Set on an island in Sweden's West Coast archipelago, traveling to this museum takes you on a day or weekend trip to the islands that is a visually amazing experience on its own; the building is modern and well set in the landscape. Aquarelle collection is not on a permanent display due to light sensitivity but they rather exhibit parts of the collection at a time, along with the current show. Both shows (Där livet sker and Maria Nordin) and a movie that was playing (Horungen) were excellent, all from contemporary Nordic artists. I'm very glad we took...

Really cool. This is a great place for the family. You can spend hours painting together. Your tickets are good for a year so you can come back again and again. Nice cafe and restaurant attached. Great location. Go exploring Tjörn and the Swedish westcoast. You will love this. our kids had a wonderful time and have asked to return again and again. We will! Spend the day. Check out all the areas nearby. Book time to paint together. Fantastic.

Julie Nord leder oss in i imaginära världar. Hennes virtuosa teckningar trollbinder betraktaren med sina gåtfulla motiv. Storögda flickebarn och vidunderliga djurgestalter tågar in och ut ur bildrummet. Något hotfullt ruvar i idyllen. Julie Nord takes us to imaginary worlds. Her skilled drawings bewitch the viewer with their puzzling motifs. Wide-eyed little girls and weird animal creatures move in and out of the pictures. Something threatening lurks behind the idyll. She challenges our preconceptions of the borderlines separating the innocent from the frightening. Her works are in Indian ink and watercolour. Julie Nord's visual idiom is inspired by film art, illustrations from children's books and Gothic horror tales. There are traces here suggestive of tales by Lewis Caroll, H.C. Andersen and the brothers Grimm.
