The kids absolutely loved this place. It's a bonkers small-scale attraction pulled off with extraordinary success. My youngest selected a house to be hers and set up dinner for us with the various props. My eldest scaled the tower to be king of the castle before watching the adhoc archery competition between 'viking' youths who appeared to be living here as vikings for a summer camp. One man was metal forging with the old apparatus. A teen was cooking a stew with a sheep heads. I got a sense that was actually their dinner. One child viking was protective of his coins whilst his dad worked leather. They'd travelled up from Germany to live as vikings. It was all a little surreal, utterly mad and entirely authentic. Unlike the live-in museums populated by 'actors', I came away surprised and impressed. I'll confess, I didn't expect to like it. But during summer when the youths and 'vikings' descend to live, it's well worth every penny if you...
Read moreThe museum was very interesting and there were several fun activities like getting to dress up like a viking, however it was a little underwhelming the day we visited due to short staff. The guided tour was excellent and our guide really knew his stuff (a great storyteller, too!) but it felt incomplete because almost all of the village staff was out sick, so there was no one stationed at each farm to talk about their area. Despite that, it was beautiful, including a breathtaking view from atop the tower (you can even see the Øresund bridge between Copenhagen and Malmö). It would definitely be worth going back again when it's at normal staff capacity. We had lunch at the on-site barbeque restaurant, which was delicious, and the little cafe inside the gift shop was great for a quick fika. The gift shop itself was expensive and didn't have much to choose from, but the staff was very pleasant and still found a few handcrafted items...
Read moreThis place is brill, for both adulls and kids. I was hesitant to go due to the few poor reviews, but I honestly don’t understand them. There were 10+ Viking games/activities we could try layed out on the field, including archery, axe throwing, caber toss, stilt walking, horse shoe throwing, some balancing games, sack wresting, the list goes on. We got to make bracelets in the traditional Viking way, we saw inside their houses, we got to see the blacksmith making a fire lighter, glassworker making glass beads, bread tasting with honey. We saw the actors and watched a dual and they were brilliant. We spent a good 3-4 hours here and had a fabulous time, I highly recommend it. My only comment would be that there could be some cheaper/more affordable options to buy souvenirs for the kids in the shop, and the cafe was closed when we left at 4 which we were sad about. But the actual village is awesome....
