A gorgeous, free walk inside a river chasm/slot canyon! A great trip for kids but I don't recommend it for toddlers or small children as the dirt path down to the entrance is narrow and steep and my toddler hated the noise in the canyon. He was in a backpack and the roof was too low in some places to pass. The metal stairs and elevated path in the canyon is exciting and not for the faint hearted or those who hate heights!
The main parking (quite small and just off the main road) is across the valley on the other side of the main river Engstlige (East side), and the whole circular track from there takes about 1.5 hours and includes the Pochtenkessel, "fountain of youth" swimming hole and a wood working shop (closed Sundays). There is another even smaller parking lot (5 or 6 cars) on the same side of the river as the gorge about 500m from the top of the canyon (you enter from the bottom) on the south side of the gorge's creek, but the road there is very small, basically driveway width and I'm sure locals would prefer you don't use it. Google's directions to the waterfall led me there, however. Walking to, then going through the canyon and back to this parking lot would probably take normal-speed walkers around 35 minutes. The walk is free and unmanned. I didn't see the donation box...
Read moreVery beautiful gorge that is free to public, which is fascinating for the amount of work that they did. They have the donation box to help to maintain the gorge. A lot of helpful information about the glacier, and how the gorge was built. No dog allowed. We came in on a rainy day and quite windy, but still appreciate the spectacular work/ view of the waterfall and the glacier, and felt like we were the only one here.
10-15 mins walk from town. The bridge is not for people with faint of heart. It is very slippery on the rainy...
Read moreIt's nice, and free, but it's not mine. From Adelboden, you have to walk 50 minutes downhill on a little road to reach the place. You can drive your car to the parking place at the level of the bus station Schönbühl or with the bus one station later (once an hour). Still you need to walk from there for 20 minutes. Then a steep path down to the entrance, then walk up through the gorge and a few minutes higher, you're back on the road. Then you need to walk your way back upwards. If it's hot you will soon forget the freshness...
