Absolutely beautiful! Relatively only locally known which makes it less busy with tourists. From the bus stop nearest to it, it’s only a short but steep uphill climb, but with plenty of rest benches along the way! Once there, it has many picnic tables and rubbish bins. You can freely explore the ruins and even climb to the top of the tower, but beware the steps are very steep if you don’t like heights (worth it though!). Fantastic for photos and for enjoying the views of the surrounding...

It is a beautiful location, but you must be prepared to walk up, as the castle is up the hill. On the top you will find a beautiful view of the Thal valey. Down by the road there is a church and a restaurante. The church is unfortunately always closed, but the restaurant offers delicious food made out of regional and organic ingredients. Furthermore, from the castle it is open to access the "Holzweg", which is a fun hiking trail...

The Neu Falkenstein ruins are just outside the town of Balstahl and can be easily reached by bus from the train station. The steep path to the ruins takes about 10-15 minutes. When you reach the top you have a wonderful view of the landscape. The ruins are well maintained and the Great Tower can be reached via a very steep stairway. The ruins of the castle also have different tables and possibilities...
