We tried our luck and found one parking spot at the S. Nicolao station, which is 1/2 way up the mountain. Otherwise - one has to take the train from the town (at Capolago station). Parking was free (though the sign indicated we had to pay - but no payment arrangements to be found). The station is nothing but a platform. Tickets may be bought on board the train, or at the cafeteria when you arrive - if you only use a credit card. The views from the mountain are fantastic - but it's a 20min difficult walk to get to the mountain top fro the station. Beware of the cafeteria - both the prices...
   Read moreIf you want to catch the funicular, make sure to get to the train station called Capolago-Riva San Vitale (15 away from Lugano, train S10) and then buy your ticket (the earlier you get there, the better). After fourty minutes you will have reached the last stop called Generoso Vetta. There are trails to hike, a magnificent view (climb all the way to the summit and you will get to see Milano)...and let us not forget the Fiore di Pietra by Mr. Botta. This is not open the whole year so you better check before...
   Read moreWonderful views.I do it monthly.The good thing is ,you have many different ways to reach the top with different difficulties.In order of difficulty : By Funivia,from behind Lanzo d´Intelvi (Italy),or from the front (Arogno).By Funivia if you just want to visit it as a turist without walk.From Lanzo will be easy long paths trought the hills but not dangerous for families with children.From Arogno are about 8km ,pretty steep and narrow path with some part a bit dangerous with cliffs but is the nicer...
