Avoid if you can - waste of time and money
This touristic train ride is not worth the money and time. There is nothing you can gain from it.
You pay CHF 8.- per person to the driver. The train leaves every 30 minutes from the walking street, driving by the hotel Eden Rock and hotel Ascovilla, heading out of town to a small marina, passing by a field of grass, which they call the former airport. Then heading back to the where we left off, driving by the hotel Castello del Sole, entering the town again through the other side of the walking street, passing by some shops.
This is an absolute joke. We took many trains in many places, but we have never experienced anything like this. The major amount of time you spend on this train is driving on a main road passing by fields of grass left and right and some suburban areas. Even the marina is nothing special at all. There is no highlight or attraction.
We were furious about this ride and we are writing this review, not to destroy someones business, but to make them change something and offer some kind of a better experience and value for money. Go up the hills, where you can overlook the lake and have some beautiful views, show some exceptional landmarks, give people some exciting inside knowledge, go somewhere you normally wouldn't go. Read moreThis train is popular with families. Because of social distancing, there was an empty row between people so it was only at about half capacity. It runs through some of the downtown sections of Ascona, but also through the wealthy district. We got to see a golf course, and expensive houses and resorts, including a small marina of yachts. Apparently the property values of that little enclave of Ascona are very elevated.
