Beautiful bridge along Valle Verzasca. Visited in Summer and there were a lot of people chilling around sunbathing or dipping in the waters.
Recommended Hiking Trail along Valle Verzasca: Lavertezzo to Ganne/Brione/Sonogo
🚍 Locarno to ‘Lavertezzo, Paese’ bus stop. Take note on the bus timings, it usually runs hourly. If you see a huge crowd at the bus stop (peak period anticipated), there might be one or two additional buses behind, the driver may come down and mention this in Italian.
📸 Ponte dei Salti and the valley (Valle Verzasca) along the trail
📍 After alighting from the bus stop, take a quick break at the free public toilet nearby. Walk towards the famous bridge and cross it, you will see signs of hiking trails towards the end.
🥾 Hiking Trail: Lavertezzo to Ganne. I didn’t wear hiking shoes and my Adidas trainers seem to be wearing out so I stopped at Ganne seeing that there is a bus stop, it is recommended to proceed the trail to Brione, or go further down to Sonogo.

📍 Lavertezzo – Valle Verzasca
The Verzasca River is one of the most stunning natural wonders in Switzerland, renowned for its emerald-green water, smooth granite rocks, and alpine beauty. We visited after lunch for a gentle stroll—an ideal way to enjoy the scenery and digest.
We parked near Ponte dei Salti, the iconic double-arched stone bridge in Lavertezzo. From there, it’s a short walk to access the riverbanks. Even though the day was cloudy, the vivid green hues of the water were absolutely mesmerizing.
The area is popular for picnics, short hikes, and photography. Some visitors were sunbathing or climbing the rocks, and despite the chill, a few even swam. The river’s clarity is incredible—you can see every pebble on the bottom.
🧭 Tip: • Bring non-slip shoes if you plan to explore the rocks. • Swimming is only recommended in calmer sections during warmer months. • Great for nature lovers and photographers.
🅿️ Parking: Designated lots around Lavertezzo (white and blue zones). 📸 Photo Spot: Ponte dei Salti offers postcard-worthy views. 🕊️ Vibe: Peaceful, raw, and...
Read moreWonderful place.. just an hour drive from Lugano! I visited one morning during a cold and icy day, there was frozen snow everywhere and the water was extremely cold.. there are easy car parks, for free and by hourly ticket. The town looks like a ghost town, i probably saw only 5 tourists during my visit.. in Summer time is possible to swim in the pristine river, the water looks extremely clean, coming from the mountains on the back. In winter time is very unlikely to see someone swimming, even though I was very tempted to do so despite the 6 degrees below 0. Great place for a half day trip though, you can then visit the highest bungee jumping in Europe nearby, and then keep driving up the mountains. Bring your own food because no restaurant around and remember to bring your rubbish home with you and keep the place clean . Connect with me on...
